4-handed 5/10, I'm in the BB with :5c: :qd: . Folded around to SB who completes, I check.
Flop comes :tc: :qh: :8h:. Shortstack leads out for $10, I raise to $45. Shortstack instantly goes all-in for $200 more. Shortstack plays hit-and-run poker, he's capable of making semi-bluffs and plays fairly loose. How often can you expect to be ahead here? Damn shortstacks...
Why raise? I would call the flop bet and see what's up if I wasn't prepared to either call or fold to a push.
In situations where the other guy is either ahead or semi-bluffing, I think it's usually best to fold (the exception being when he semi-bluffs with an extremely high frequency). Those two possibilities combined are usually enough to make you an underdog to win the pot, so you're essentially just gambling by calling.

Hence, I just call the stupid flop bet. As a general rule, in NLHE you shouldn't raise if you don't know what to do in response to a re-raise.
I dont personally think about what to do when I get re-raised because that happens so rarely.
about the actual hand. I like the raise if you are willing to call the shorty's push. I might call if he is capable of doing that with lots of holdings i.e. middle pair or a flush draw. Otherwise I just call.
on a sidenote: I really hate the hit n' run players. Is Ed Miller to blame?
Would he really play 2p+ that fast? At this board and with your read, it's an easy call. Getting 1.5:1 helps too.
