Probably could have made a lot more from this hand. I feel that the river card kinda nuked my action potential though. I just didn't put villain on as strong a hand as a set, otherwise I'd a bet a whole lot more on all streets.

Yeah i was going to comment on these but theres a lot of unrelated hands together which makes it a challenge!

So:

#1 looks like how i would play it. I would raise the flop about 50% of the time, depending on what i think my image is... I too would be thinking "could i have got more from that".

#2 is a position that's painful to be in - betting into someone who just keeps on calling. I think you did what you could though and put maximum pressure on him.

#3 is the same hand as #2. :D

#4 is pretty :eek:! 15 outs which turn out to be clean. 0.85:1 by my thinking. El Stoveo del Pokero says you're 56.2% to win... +EV enough to push it. Dont know what to say about that so i will let someone better comment.

#5 with the QQ... Well my mind has been changed a bit from my conversations with Fnord this afternoon... what do you put someone on when they re-re-raise you all-in preflop? QQ+ or (maybejustmaybe) AK, really. It would hurt but that is a fold. Easy to say, now i just have to put that into practice.

#6 YOU'RE the fish? Jesus H. At least you had a hand. It's scary to bet into a "made" flush on the turn but i think you need to keep going but prepare to fold to a reraise. I don't think he would be sophisticated enough to check-raise bluff that but hey. I hope you made some notes on this player/hand.

I felt like I was treading thin here. This wasn't a very loose table, so i just KNEW a push wasn't getting called. Little did I know villain had a set...

Also I try pushing rivers like this often and I think its a huge leak in my game because I am not getting calls. I figured a safe value bet was in order.

That board gives your opponent 2 pair or a set quite often.

Some simple math will solve this problem for you (hint: get called less, make more money.) Also consider that over-bets are more likely to get called by loose post-flop players on early streets.

Are you suggesting that if my river overbets even get called a small percentage of the time, that I would profit more than if my small value bets were called 90% of the time?

My preflop raises where getting a ridiculous amount of respect at this table. So I a made a modest raise with only two players to act and one called.

With the flop I figured I had the deck crippled, so I checked it trying to represent TT-KK and hoping to induce a bet. He bets I think and call.

Turn comes and the board still doesn't appear dangerous to me in any way, I continue to slow play and he bets at me again. I figure he's got a weak holding and I am not making anymore money of this hand so I raise him.

River comes, I don't put him on KJ, I figure he has a small pair in the hole, like 8's or so and I bet as much as I figured he'd call (a little less than half the pot).

The thing is, there's a lot of hands that can continue against you if you played it a bit more standardly/agressively.

Ax, 66, 77, 67, 89, 54, perhaps even 88-KK. You're line just screams monster.. like Fnord said, you froze up a set. That board should be a stacking for you 100% of the time there.

Ignoring results, do you really think you can win a big pot here against a marginal hand by raising preflop, checking the flop, and then putting in a lot of money on later streets? I know there are exceptions, but I find this generally doesn't work very well.

You also have QQ-KK a lot in this spot, and not betting out here is a meta-game disaster IMO...

There have been a couple hands recently where I've saved a lot of money pretty much check/calling sets after my opponent has shown lines where I knew he had exactly nothing or flopped really really big. If an ABC player gives me a free turn card and I hit a small set I'm no longer looking at stacks. If he played AK TPTK like that, then oh well. Most players in my game know enough to bet something to protect their pair. It's almost always top set or better jerking me around or a whiffed AK (or whatever) thinking he's restealing.
