moving up and the cost involved

I seem to be having a problem with my BR management. Here's the thing, i make great money at my day job and money is not really the problem. But I can't really put alot of $$ into a poker sight, (Kids need braces, truck needs tires, that sort of thing.) So i put 50 into poker stars and figured i would save the bonus sites for later. Now the problem, .01/.02 cent games just mess me up. It's so cheap to see the flops that i'm calling way to many hands from the things that i've read. 44%. but moving up to the .05/.10 cent games have to much up and down for my current BR to be comfortable. I do win at the lower stakes and will build up in the long term, but will it screw up what i know is good poker and breed bad habits, for the higher limits,or is it ok as long as I know the difference.

Either you are playing adaptive poker and loosening up because it is more +EV, or you are playing sloppy poker and copying bad habbits. If its the former then its fine, you will build up your roll fast and soon be at 25NL + and you are probably already a good player if you can do this instinctivly.

If its the latter (as I suspect) then be patient. Cut down and just play good hands. You will win even more this way than you already are.

Try playing 2-3 tables at the same time so you wont get so bored and will be more inclined to fold marginal hands preflop.

Do your best to stay disciplined and keep folding. Either you learn to do this now or you'll never mae it in poker. Its just one of those things you have to del with as you progress as a player.

Try and remember you're playing with multiples of the big blind, not money.

If you have the knowledge or inclination to try limit, try some .01/.02, .02/.04, or .05/.10 limit tables. Playing 40% is actually a good thing there (with good post flop play), and you can make up to 10+BB/hr there. Also, limit is a good fundamental mathematical basis for NL play.

Playing 40% IS, in my opinion, BADDD. Since i can relate to your situation, I suggest that you look up AOK's strategy on playing "THE 19 STARTING HANDS". For months now, I was a losing player at cash games, 1. because I did not have the skills and 2. I was intimidated at the table. As I began to play the 19 hand strategy, I noticed that at the microlimits I was getting into the hand with the best of it more often then not. Why is that? Well, at the microlimits, your AJ is going to go up against Ace small ALOT! Thus you can play with the confidence that you are getting into the hand with the best of it and bet out strong!
As for building a roll, this is the opportunity to test and develop patience. Playing any moore than the 19 hands right now will only get you into trouble. You're more likely to syphone off chips chasing straights and flushes than making them that it will be -ev in the long run. Test it out. Be STRICT about it. Play those hands and those hands only. It built my roll in two weeks more than what I was able to do in seven months! Try it,

Well, xan was talking about Limit poker, not No Limit. Theres some key differences between the two, but even at limit 40% is still way too high for the microstakes games. Hell, 40% is too high for any limit games except maybe three handed and heads up :p

I get the whole 19 hand's and the theory's, my problem was definitly getting bored and thinking it's only 2 cents, not that its bet's or chips. I new this was making me see way too many hands and I guess the problem is patience. What i did was get into micro tourney's and S&G's and found the patience was easier. I did find playing 3 tables better too like shaun say's, because it keeps me playing more hands and you don't really need the reads at that level, just good strategy I figure. I won my first S&G i entered for real cash (only a $1+.10 cent) but $14.00 is nothing to sneeze at. I did get lucky on one hand early to set me up. Villian had KK LP, I went all in QQ UTG and hit a queen on the turn but that happens both ways, right. Anyway, started at $50, boredom got me to $25, but i'm back up to $45 and thats after finishing in the money on a ten dollar MTT. Out of 1480 players I was 227th, an ok start. I think I'll re-read SSH and have at'er some more. Thanks guys.

Agreed.

forget big MTTs altogether until you have a MUCH bigger bankroll. About the biggest you should go is the $1 45 man SnGs (they have them on pokerstars)

Id just stick to low buying SnGs if I were you rather than proper MTTs. Its really really easy to go without cashing for 5 MTTs in a row.
