New to cash game termonology

I am a avid SnG player and have been turning a huge profit lately with SnG and MTT play but I am looking to expand my play into cash games because I am looking at playing professionally... and want to cover all my bases

What does this mean...
just for an example. if you play 5 hours, at 4 tables, you need to pull 8bb/100 to make 80 bucks. obviously, bb/100 can go down if you play more tables or hours or vice versa.

not the whole statement just like 8bb/100 Is that 8 big bets per 100 hands?

I actually have no clue about it just a guess... if possible explain everything you can about that idea

Yes, that means 8 Big bets per 100 hands. Generally it's talking about 2x the big blind, although some people refer to that as ptBB/100.

You'll usually hear winrates quoted at that or bb/hour. Since a lot of us multitable, it's easier to go by /100.

Well, a big bet is a limit term meaning 2 big blinds, but can be transferred to NL meaning essentially the same thing. so 8BB/100 means you average out to make 8 big bets, 16 big blinds, every 100 hands. So it depends the stakes you are at to figure out how much youd make an hour, etc. but from there it is basic math. What is your poker background? What stakes are you currently playing at? If you are turning a huge proft at SNGs and MTTs, why switch to cash games?

so then basically what is that saying you need to make 8 big bets per 100 hands or you need to win 8 big bets per 100 hands?

I guess I dont see the difference. 8ptbb/100 would be making a profit of 8 big bets every hand. Answer the questions I asked in my previous post

Ok so if your playin 100NL and turn 8BB/100 your lookin at 24 dollars per 100 hands... which is almost 24 dollars an hour... give or take depending hands per hour...

I have been playing poker on and off for 3 years, although this last year i have been playing just about every day. I never got serious about it until now, I have just ordered super system and theory of poker to start my poker readings I will read a majority of these books during spring break in the bahamas...

I am playing the 15 2 table turbos turning around 30% ROI over 300 tournaments... ( not the best for a solid number but I just started gettin serious and keeping track)

I just started playing MTT's as well done about 3 and cracked a FT in a 5.50 rebuy for 500 dollars came 7th...

I am dabbling a little bit in the 25NL ring games on PS just to just see how I stand, havent played much only around 300 hands breaking justa bout even down 2 dollars

Anything else youd want to know would it help?

no.. depends on the format you are using. Pokertracker uses big-bet (2 big blinds). Pokerace uses big blinds. So an 8bb/100 winrate in pokertracker is identical to a 16bb/100 winrate in pokerace. These programs are often used in conjunction with each other. Needless to say it's quite confusing, so when I'm talking about pokertracker winrates I just say xptbb/100 and everyone knows what I mean (I think).

But if you are playing NL100 and turn an 8ptbb/100 winrate, you're obviously looking at $16 per hundred hands. I find that full ring tables generally average in the neighborhood of a hand a minute, so you are looking at about $9.60/hr.

The bigblind in 100NL is $1, so a big bet is $2, so 8bb/100 would be $16 every 100 hands which would be about $12 an hour playing full table.

You seem to be doing very well with tournaments, so on first glance Id say if you want to get serious about poker in general and are trying to focus on something, to stick with what you do well with, tournaments; however, its not going to hurt to try the cash games. Grind out 5-10k hands to give yourself a general view of where you stand and at that point try to figure out what you think would be the best route to go, tournaments or cash games. While you dont have to stick wiht just one, when you are starting out I think itd be helpful to keep your focus more narrow.

Alright Yea I understand what your saying, I just want to be able to play different things so I dont get tired on the same old same old ya know... Just wanna be well rounded... Ill grind out 5-10K hands and post some numbers... what should i be lookin at in the 25NL to be realistic numbers I will 2 table when i play so how many BB/100 should i look to hit

Im currently playing $25NL and want to be beating this soundly for about 8-10ptbb/100 over 10k hands before I move up. I want to plug the big leaks at the lower levels and make sure I have a good grasp of the basics. Its tough to put a target for you to go for, Id simply try to just beat the games at any rate and go from there.
