Anyone festering their lives away in a call center?

Thing is, I'm going back to the Alps in late November to work for the ski season. until then i needed to get a job. I looked for temporary work but found out that easy 3 months ish temporary jobs kind of don't exist, or have hundreds of applicants.

so as a last resort i went for the option of the ever present ad plastered across every paper in the land for the big corporate company whose staff turnover is through the roof because the job sucks hence the ever present ad.

4 weeks in i've finished training and am about to be let loose on the public with no clue what the hell i'm doing. the company is a shambles with a horrific old computer system that always crashes, so most calls are spent dealing with infuriated customers complaining about some other guy who fucked up.

This next couple of months will be horrific and just want to see if theres anyone else who works in this environment with tips on how to avoid suicide. thanks. i would play poker constantly but I kind of want to go out and meet new people, have a life etc.

oh and if you live in england don't ever deal with or work for CIS insurance or the cooperative bank.

why do you have so much trouble finding a temp job? Are you telling them when you apply that you only plan on working a couple of months? You gotta tell thsoe fucks that you have moved around your whole life, and finally you are settling here and taht you are looking for long term employment. Tell them that you are interested int eh advancement opportunities available at thier company, ect ect. But dont fucking tell them you plan to run off in 3 months. Why would they wnat to invest in your training?

My girlfriend wanted a job for the summer. She told all her employers that. Stupid.

i agree, if you want an easy three months, go for a full-time job doing something like systems implementation or project management. they'll pay you to sit in training for 3 months and then just before you get your first customer you cut loose for ski time

I have a friend who put in application at a temp agency, took a few tests, and gets short-term job offers of varying lengths (one week to several months) through them all the time (where both the employer and employee understand that it is short-term). Some of the jobs pay over $20 an hour, which isn't bad for a temp job. Have you tried a temp agency?

hahah I never told anyone this is just a stop gap during boredom time and I'm going off skiing in 3 months, why would I do that, why would they ever have employed me

Yeah I signed up for 2 temp agencies, but after 2 months of me pestering them, nothing. Then they finally ring up when I'm 3 weeks into my hell job. At that point the job seemed manageable so I didn't think it worth it to quit and go through the hassle of more interviews.

basically if ever i wanted it to be 2 1/2 months in the future, now is that time.

haha, for some reason this sentence made me LOL.

your avatar makes me wanna go snowboarding. Ive only been on hills in wsiconsin with fake snow. It was one of the most fun legal things I have ever done. I cant wait to hit up a real mountain.

seriously, go and work in the mountains this winter. it's the greatest thing you can do. The best days off you can get anywhere, skiing/boarding/whatever, sex on tap with girls working for the same tour operator or if you're in a bigger resort multiple operators, going out pretty much every night if you can handle it, amazing tips if you work a chalet due to the usual rich people staying there. plus theres loads of jobs in the mountains that basically give you free time during the entire middle of the day ie hosting chalets/lodges/whatever. then you can just get a long lunch and chill with colleagues, boost you enjoy good food its all good.

i don't know where in america you're from, but i guess you can apply to a ski operator with resorts based in the rockies or whatever, plus the operator takes you and everyone to the resort by coach (bus) so you only have to pay to get to where the bus leaves from. or maybe in the US they fly the staff to wherever is closest to the resort and get a bus from there.

the only problem as I found last season is finding ways of playing poker out there at 1500 metres. i'm still figuring that one out.

yah I probably would do that if I hadnt found poker. As is, Id rather just take a snowboarding vacation once or twice a year. Also, despite my love of snowboarding, I hate the cold. I couldnt live on a mountain for months at a time. Chicago winter sucks enough.
