Flop: Fine, if you put him on overs.

Turn: Something that had you beat on the flop still would think you were beat on the turn and would lead, not c/c.

River: Seems like he wants to showdown cheap if he can.

Assuming you weren't getting out of line, I like it. Looks like a weak overpair at best to me. I play similar.

I don't raise that flop bet with TPWK but I'd call it because the turn card is likely going to improve your hand or give you additional outs without improving his. My initial read is an overpair because most unknowns do not raise PP 88- pf. Some do, but very few.

Turn: OK, C/C still means overpair, but sure looks like a draw also.

River. That's a tough call. Absolutely the worst card possible. I think I fold this one and give him credit for 99. His betting is certainly consistent with 99...

Ooops, you're right. Misread the HH. Sorry....yeah, I go allin if checked to me also. Still looks like an overpair that wants a cheap showdown.

i prob call on the flop, depends what my opp has been doing; raising and leading oop is a pretty strong line.
I agree most turns will improve our chances to win the hand outright and also give us a lot of f/e if we raise.
Fwiw, i dont see much wrong with your line but he isnt calling teh river unless he has you beat so id just value bet it.

If I raise flop I raise more, because I never almost-minraise that flop with a set. If I raise flop I'll bet almost any turn card.

In general I interpret a turn check to mean one of three things;
1) he has overs and is going to c/f.
2) he has an overpair and is going to c/c for pot control.
3) he's decided his overpair is good and is check-raising.
In all three situations I'm happy to get money in.

I don't know about the river, the board and action is now scary enough to let him lay down anything we beat.

Would nobody else be very worried about that straight?

If i was playing, and he checked on the river, i'd take it as a free card/showdown, just to avoid losing extra money incase he got the straight.

Maybe this is what keeps me from being a good player though, hence why I play the 5 dollar tables. lol.

I think a villain who is aggressive enough to lead a straight draw into us on the flop will not check call if he hits turn and then check the river to us.

I'm more worried about a weirdly played set than I am of a straight.

What hands will he raise preflop that would complete a straight?
Site that this hand comes from is known to be tight, so 99 oop may not even be a raising hand.
99 is therefore the only probable one, and if opp called 1/4 of effective stacks off on the turn with just an oesd he isnt going to win in the long run, so no matter what he has on river we bet, we just need to get called for value which is why a push is folding hands that might call a small value bet here.

FWIW, 88 wouldnt be a total surprise here (preflop action would though) but at these stakes i cant see a nitty abc player knowing someone is going to stack off by the river with the given action. We only really bet the turn becuase we improved.

Looks like an overpair to me. 99 would make sense but obv unlikely. Str8 board makes the river push interesting. Since you raised the flop, overpair might not believe you have the str8.
