why is that better than $18?

I hate these spots. About half the time at NL25 when I call this bet op has the flush.

I'm not saying I fold but the Ace on the river really didn't improve your hand compared to his. So if you fold on the river to a push on a heart you should fold in this spot as well.

Because I think he is ahead here, and it gets more value of the guy's weaker ace/draw.

He still didn't have odds to call the turn bet unless he has the Ace of hearts with another heart. I bet this turn way more than 18, probably closer to 25 and let villain really pay for his draw. I call the river because i could see AQ or AJ doing this and you're getting like 3.5-1. Pots too fold for an online read!

If the villain is good enough to rep the flush with a weak Ace I'd call, but most players aren't that tricky at 100 NL. Also, you can only charge people for a flush, if you're not going to offer them implied odds by paying them off when they make their draw.

I might check this turn. It encourages weaker aces to bluff off chips on the river, and you don't lose as much if you have to pay off a draw, but maybe my thinhking is a little off here.

you also dont win as much when the draw doesnt hit though.

even a slightly larger turn bet makes this situation a lot easier. if you make it 22 on the turn, there is 8 more in the pot, and 4 less behind, and opp isnt going to fold his flush draw (if he has it) for 4 more dollars. you could even make it 5-6 more and make it even easier.

i don't mind checking the turn. does anyone like a bigger raise on the flop though?
