Proud of this fold - should I be?

SB is a solid TAG, around 28/12. On the turn I really tried to put SB on a hand, and the most obvious thing would be a slowplayed Ace. I thought with the big cold-call PF, and the check/call on the flop, villain could easily have AK, AQ, AJ. Let the PFR c-bet the flop, try to get a c/r in on the turn, and if its checked through, push the river.

After I checked, villain felted it. I used to always call here and cross my fingers that my read was wrong. I feel this is my next poker hurdle though. My reads have been pretty accurate for awhile now, but I don't follow through with them enough. I'll feel the someone was drawing to a flush and caught it, or was slowplaying a monster, and yet I'll call anyway in desperation, and be proven right.

In this case on the river, I thought about the hand and I wanted to call, but I really felt this villain would play an ace this way, and did what I felt was the +EV thing by folding.

Ok, so first of all, do you agree with my logic and my fold? Secondly, has anyone else had to overcome this problem with trusting their reads before? I feel like reads come naturally the more you play, but trusting them can be difficult. Any advice?

You reraised preflop, he calls. You bet the flop on an AA5 board, he calls. You check the turn, he pushes river......I don't think this is a bluff here, at least not very often, at 0.25/0.50.

2) OMG yes. By coming naturally I think you mean, "after making tons of terrible calls, I'm finally learning how to fold in questionable situations". That's where I'm at right now.

Betting the flop is a mistake.

This is a bad flop for your hand given the preflop action (I would expect the small blind to be a fish who is cold-calling with some weakish ace high hand before the flop), and it should become clear on later streets whether or not you're beat. There's no reason to charge yourself a near pot-sized amount for information that you should be able to get more cheaply on later streets. You also avoid getting check-raised, which might allow you to spike a miracle Q and win a big pot against trip aces.
