Flopped set vs. a nit

This guy is 19/3 over 800+ hands and will not stack off easily. I finally have him where I want him here, how to best extract value?

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is CO with 4:heart: 4:club:
4 folds, Hero raises to $4, Button folds, SB calls, BB folds.

Flop: T:diamond: 4:spade: 8:club: ($9, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $7, SB raises to $18, Hero ???

raise again. Hopefully he has JJ. I have a nasty feeling he has a set here aswell but not enough to not get it in with those stacks. Reraise again before some A comes and kills your action.

ugh , he isnt stacking to a bet/3bet line ffs.

Call the flop. Perhaps lead the turn again and hope opp thinks you are fishing a bit. otherwise c/r all in on turn or something, but dont bet/3bet hes getting away from anythiong he might pay you off with on later streets far too easily to that line.

Actually I agree with you here. Call and checkraise turn seems best.

bit of nth level thinking.
Check the turn behind if opp checks and hope he bets or blocks the river into you.
Otherwise standard turn play may get you paid. If opp leads turn i call and push any river, opp will find it hard to fold to the river pot odds, but may get away from a raised turn card

19% is nowhere near nit. Flat call the flop, and let the turn play itself.

if 19% isn't a nit, what is? 15%? how do these people make any money?

the 3 makes him a nit, not the 19

The 3 makes him passive, the 19 means he's not a nit. I'd say VPIP < 15 is nitty.

mixchange: They're nut campers and they're quite profitable up through 100NL I believe. People who aren't paying attention or aren't using HUDs will pay them off. And it's easy for them to multi-table because they have so few decisions.

gotcha, I'm sure it makes sense at diff limits by a better player. I guess I just tried that style and failed badly. as a LAGG at .25/.50 (i'm sure my style fails miserably against better cash players) nits are my favorite to get into hands with because they give my sc's great implied odds and its easy to avoid their big hands by avoiding calling their raises if I don't have a good hand. there's just plenty of weak-tight and mistake prone players at my limit that being a nit didn't seem to pay.

I didn't understand the 19/3 comment at first, I getcha now. Are you guys actually checkign the tracker info during the hand? I've reviewed between hands, but its hard to remember such detail.

It sounds like you're not using a heads-up display (HUD)? I use PokerAce HUD and it's well worth the cost. It shows you stats while you're playing and constantly updates them.

No, I'm not. I guess on PokerStars I figured I wouldn't run into the same people enough since its so big, but it's probably worth it if it helps you stack someone once. Just been using Poker Tracker. On sites like Ultimate Bet I see the same people all the time, but haven't seen a lot of the same face on PS.

I have plenty of desktop room with 2 24 inch widescreen CRT's (they are insanely cheap now) so I'll grab PokerAce HUD. Thanks for info!

If you cant read, you are playing too many tables. You also shouldnt need to read cards much at 50nl. Hands play themselves.

i'm definitely working hardest on reading. This HUD thing just sounds like an extra leg up, as long as you don't use it as a crutch.

I don't know what you mean about 'hands play themselves' but maybe you are just much better than me and find 50NL to be childsplay in comparison to what you play.

I'm not with Miffed on this one, HUDs are great tools and just cause you're playing 50NL doesn't mean the hands "play themselves". Sure, it's important to develop reads outside of your HUD, mainly because HUDs don't tell you much about post-flop play, but knowing that an opponent is 13/5 can save you a lot of money.

ill just be happy to agree to disagree with teh HUD users.
I wouldnt sit at lhe without my HUD active, but at NL i dump that thing.

Ive still never used it at NL and wont ever. But i recognise a lot of players will.
