"Bet your set" Question about being OOP

How do you go about betting your set when you are OOP?

You want to play for stacks here and check/calling the flop ain't getting there against most of the field.

Every now and then lead into a thinking PFR to set-up the flop lead with a monster play. Better yet, lead into a thinking PFR and a non-post-flop-loose caller as a pure bluff.

Also, I sometimes check/raise here, particularly against post-flop loose auto-bet types.

Yeah, your right, especially on this board.

lead out and hope he has an overpair, the raise will probably commit him to the turn c/r all in.

go ahead and check/call the flop here, and if he is the type to bet his OEnders, like T J here, you are screwed...and its YOUR fault.

i had 45s in the BB yesterday, and flopped 4 5 5. like an idiot, i check/called all the way down. the turn was a harmless 8. villain led out more than on the flop, so i figured he hit the 8...i only called. the river was another 8. i got runner-runner overhoused, and KNEW it. he led $3 and i called in case he was betting the A-high. he was, he showed A 8 for the overhouse...and i only had MYSELF to blame.

at such small stakes, if you hit the flop BET IT! and charge the idiots to suckout, as they WILL try to suckout.

imo, leading out with a set, at lower stakes, is almost the new "slow play," as so many people float their sets trying for a big pot.

edit: and dont lead the flop with a measly .25, either. this is a VERY weak play. lead out with a 3/4 or full psb...or whatever you usually cbet with.

In this spot if you bet 3/4 or PSB and are called, do you go for the c/r on the turn or stay aggressive and bet another 3/4 pot?

this is a standard c/r, leading out and checking/calling are both poor imo.

good reason to make yourself easy to play against and play something exactly how people expect that you would play a set (i'm not saying you should never check/raise a set).

Check/Raise it all baby ... TPTK, Overpairs, Set, Primary draws. They'll never know what hit 'em.

I bet the flop in this situation. Builds the pot up and gives you a chance to stack your opponent.
Check-raising just shows to much strength and you're not going to stack a player that you wouldn't have stacked anyway by leading.
Check-calling and leading the turn also shows quite a lot of strength. Keeps the pot small and you may as well CR the flop if you are going to lead the turn IMO.

If you bet the flop you start building the pot. You give your opponent the chance to raise you with overpairs, TPTK, etc. which really builds up a pot.

The cbet will be so small that IMO there is no point in slowplaying it just to get him give an extra bet and then fold.
Also, by betting you are less likely to be sucked out on - which is the main reason I bet my hands. I could get stacked in this spot if he hits a straight on the turn. And I'll only have myself to blame. If I lead I have a better picture of where I'm at by his reaction.
Also, being drawn out when slowplaying can put me on tilt. So I really don't like slowplaying anything less than a boat.

If he folds yo your bet you weren't going to make much on the hand anyway.

At $25NL, I'd lead the flop every time. Just make sure you do this on good draws and other types of hands (maybe a bluff). It puts the opponent in a very difficult position. They don't want to fold (especially on a draw board), and if they have TPTK or an over pair they'll come way over the top.

Thanks for all the replies. I have been betting out my sets OOP and they keep being folded to. I guess I can mix it up a bit but betting out is going to build the pot. I'm only going to stack a guy when he has a hand worth defending anyway.

exactly, you weren't going to stack these players anyway. the only way you were going to get all your money into the centre is if he outdrew you (eg hit his gutshot that he would never have gone for)
