Reraise with JJ and TT preflop -- why?

A lot of good players advocate reraising these hands, maybe even 99 and 88 preflop. I have done it with very little success.

My thinking is that these reraises will 1) only be called by better hands, and smaller pockets would fold due to incorrect set-hunt odds. 2) AK and QQ+ might repop you, forcing you to fold due to -EV if you call against that range (even you're 55:45 vs AK) 3) Even if you're called you won't know whether you're ahead, or maybe opponent is trying to trap you.

Let's say you 3-bet 4x to 12x with JJ in position and got called. Flop comes 982, or Q74, or anything else that doesn't give you a set. Opponent check-calls your c-bet. Now what? Is opponent calling with missed AK or a smaller PP trying to float you, or are they trapping with KK/QQ/99/88? Or did they flop TPTK with AQ? If they check-raise can we call?

If I flat-call preflop I find it easier to play the hand postflop. 1) Hit your set and you're golden. 2) If you want to play it as an weak overpair against missed overs you keep the pot smaller.

Somebody please help me in this matter. My game is suffering lately and I think a huge leak in my game is my inability to play well in reraised pots (whether I'm the 3-bettor or the orignial raiser).

You 3bet JJ-QQ for value preflop, because its harder to extract value postflop from worse hands.

I've started playing 1010 for sets (limp/call), but I will raise and isolate with jacks...tricky hand though. I give up in multiway pots with any Q K or A on the flop. Headsup it's worth the cbet unless you read opp only raising with an A in his hand an an A hits.

however if you 3bet PF, sometimes an A can be your best friend against KK or QQ. It's a tough read though.

I also think the limits matter a lot. You play 25NL, setmining is cake. But at higher stakes like 200NL+ *some* people sniff sets out easier and raising to isolate with 77-1010 *can* be more profitable.

Your hand has more preflop equity than KJ, KT, QJ, AT, AQ, etc. and all the random shit that a LAG raises. Of course, against total TAGtards I'll just call the PFR, but I see no reason not to repop someone with a decent PFR.

I've been having trouble playing in reraised pots with these hands, but fuck it, I suck in reraised pots anyway, it's time to learn to play poker.

Note if opp has a tight calling range or really tight raising range you probably shouldn't threebet JJ-TT pre.
