how to play this hand better?

anybody have some suggestions how i could have played this hand better?
(villain was 20/10, didnt have much of a read on him, pretty much abc poker from what i figured)

bet more on the flop.,....you bet $1.25 into a pot of $3.75 and therefore give 3:1 odds for the first caller, 4:1 for the second.

You have the nuts here but as can be seen, anyone with a set is coming along if you don't price them out.....at these stakes don't try to get tricky, lead out rather than slowplay or try to trap, people will hang themsleves.

Here if you lead out for the pot, yeah you might only pick up the pot but you also are pricing anyone with AQ/AJ/AT from trying to draw on you and anyone with a set is making the wrong call to stay in as well.

you are probably correct i should have figured one of the two might have a set with that flop. the flop being rainbow and giving me nut str8 i felt safe slowplaying some. the way the betting was going i was assuming by the turn one of them would have a str8 too and the other was probably along with trips. i continued playing it slow thinking if there is a set out there, it would come along at pretty much any price at these stakes. the way things turned out i guess betting harder at the flop would eventually have cost me more actually.

Here you are 65% fav to win the pot given the holdings we now know (having stats on them would have made this a better exersize) and he is a 35% fav. You are offering him 3:1 with your bet and so calling with his set is right.

If you bet 2/3 to pot size on the flop you are offering him 3:2 or 2:1 and if he calls he is making a mistake, which is where we profit.

If you bet $3 on the flop, and he called or re-raised and it got all-in, then you make money. Doesn't matter if you got stacked or if you won, you still make money in the long-run and that is what you should be aiming for.

Results of the hand shouldn't make a difference, only if you played the hand right...and just need to look at my graph for last month's profits to see I feel your pain :)

Two further things.

1. If you were hoping for someone else to have a straight, you are still laying them odds to catch up and when that happens the only winner is the rake...never try to let someone catch up to the same hand as you have.

2. If you thought somoene had a set on the flop then every play after the second jack hit is just overall bad. If you suspect a set and then get a paired board you need to be able to let it go, especially to the raise. The only way you can call that really is if you are expecting that he called with AJ/KJ and the line he took is not one you'll see those hands take.
