The Largest Sunday Tourney, FTOPS V Event #6 pays out $1,311,600
FTOPS V's No-Limit Hold 'em event #6 featured 4,372 entrants and a first prize worth more than $231,000, giving the top two finishers a lot to fight for. With so much money on the line, both players started out conservative, trying desperately to protect their chips. But once 313OG won a few hands and started to sense the end was near, he got aggressive, stealing the big blind and betting at smaller pots until akaginsf had only one move – all-in. Unfortunately, the timing of akaginsf's pocket Queens couldn't have been worse, as 313OG held pocket Aces for the championship and $231,615 in first-place prize money.
With 12 players remaining, akaginsf was the chip leader with more than 3 million and serefecheers was a close second. The two chip leaders were set to dominate the final nine, but right before the final table started, both made questionable plays, doubling up short stacks and losing huge amounts of chips. On a board of A-3-4, akaginsk called PhilHPoker with Q-J. PhilHPoker held A-K. Another Ace came on the turn and akaginsk doubled PhilHPoker to 1,200,000. serefecheers got caught trying to bully other players, running into Aces with A-3 and losing a third of his stack to king goostar.
serefecheers' chips were of little help however, as king goostar was the first player to exit the final table, eliminated when he pushed all-in for well over a million on a board of 4-9-A-10-2. BigBukkinChickn made a really tough call with only a pair, holding J-9, but caught king goostar bluffing with J-3. This amazing call put BigBukkinChickn in great position as the final table played out.
With chips to work with, PhilHPoker became a favorite of the railbirds, proclaiming himself to by the best No-Limit Hold 'em player in the world and complaining that nobody respected his raises while fans debated his identity. PhilHPoker's charm was not enough to keep him in the tournament however, as he continually called away his chips. Then, playing the short stack, PhilHPoker pushed his remaining 570,000 with A-4, but ran into 313OG's pocket 9s and failed to improve, sending him home with $23,608 for the eighth-place finish.
On the very next hand, 313OG made the nut straight on the turn and doubled up to 5,500,000 when BigBukkinChickn called with a set of jacks. BigBukkinChickn was eliminated in seventh place when he was forced to push his remaining chips with K-5 and ran into PrtyPsux's A-9.
dacove71 was the next player to the rail, pushing with pocket 3s and getting called by akaginsf who held pocket 10s.
Proving just how quickly fortunes can change, dijana doubled up to 1,500,000 with Q-Q against PrtyPsux's A-K, but promptly lost it with a pair of jacks when serefecheer's made a wheel on the river. Finally pushing with A-K, dijana was called by two players who checked it down. 313OG held K-9 and rivered a 9 to send dijana home in fifth place with $54,169.
PrtyPsux was the next player out, pushing with A-7 and called by akaginsf's K-J. The King paired on the flop and PrtyPsux took home $72,138 for the fourth-place finish.
Three-handed, a lot of big pots were passed across the table. 313OG took 2 million from akaginsf, calling him down with a pair of Aces.
akaginsf then slow-played A-K against serefecheers and won a 1,800,000 pot when he made a King-high flush on the river and serefecheers called with a Queen-high flush.
serefecheers was eliminated in third place, pushing with J-10 but dominated by 313OG's pocket 10s. serefecheers won $91,812 and 313OG added another 1,800,000 to his chip stack, taking a two to one chip lead into heads-up play.
Both players were conservative as heads-up play commenced, often just calling minimum raises pre-flop and then checking it down with marginal hands. On one 3,000,000 pot, 313OG raised before the flop and akaginsf came over the top. 313OG called. The flop came J-Q-5. Both players checked. The turn was another Queen and the river brought a 9. Both players checked and 313OG turned over K-J to take the pot against akaginsf's A-K, a huge amount of chips to check down, but both players seemed hesitant to force the action.
Following that huge pot, 313OG became aggressive and started taking a lot of pots away. Significantly short stacked, akaginsf finally pushed with Queens, but ran into 313OG's pocket Aces, earning him $231,615 for his first-place finish. For second place, akaginsf took home $140,210.
