I've got mixed feelings about him right now. On one hand, I really like him. I like the way he motivates our players, the message he sends as head coach, etc. I also like the fact that he turned our defense around from one of the worst to respectable, and it's getting better by the day.
The thing I don't like, and maybe this is more of a Dick Vermiel-induced hangover type of thing because our offense was so spectacular for a five year stretch......is that our offense is fucking pathetic. It's not totally his fault, though. Our O-line has taken a few big hits over the past two years (losing two HOF-caliber players) so our running game is bad. We've got Damon freaking Huard at QB (what a joke), and the future of our franchise looks like it's going to be Brodie Croyle (lol at that one). We've never had top flight receivers but we had a kick-ass running game so we could get away with it....now with no run-game our receivers are looking more like they *should* look (ie: terrible). Tony Gonzalez is our only real threat, but without QB/O-line/running game/good receivers he can't make an impact......
So, pretty much we suck.
Our play calling was really shady last week, too. We had a bunch of third and shorts. Give the ball to freaking LJ, don't throw a fade pass to some shitty receiver. Give the ball to your $40 million dollar man. And when it's third and long, put the ball in the air and don't run it, at least give us a chance to get the first down...
So, defensively we're better....but our offense sucks and I'm not sure we're heading the right direction with that. It's going to take a few years to turn over the roster on offense via free agency and the draft. I like Herm, a lot, I just hope he can last that long to finally get some better players in here to give him a chance to win.
