I didn't think I was giving pot odds to chase a straight, but sure enough he was chasing with 98 of hearts. Should I have made pot sized bets instead of the 2/3ds I was going for?

My personal preference here is just under a full pot on the flop, 3/4th or so on the turn, then go from there on the river, but I don't have a particularly good reason why. The river was just a really shitty card and villain's hand was fairly disguised, nothing you can do about it.

Take into account implied odds when you're saying this. He called $8 to win an immediate $22 but in reality he called $8 to win that $22 plus the $44 left in your stack. It's going to be very hard (read: impossible) to 1)get this guy to fold his hand and 2)not have odds to draw against your hand.

I would've bet $5 on the flop and $11 on the turn and $22 on the river as played.

i see no reason to 3bet the river, i don't think you are ahead more than 50% of the time, but i think you are ahead enough to call the river raise getting like 4:1. Just save yourself the six bucks.

I would have played it the same except for a larger turn bet ($10 or so), and a call after the river raise.
