Limpers (Strategy)

I've noticed that quite a few of the players in my player pool enjoy the old limp/fold pattern.

My question is, how much of a mistake are they making and how profitable is it to exploit that mistake by making Barry Bluffs in position (and sometimes from the bb)? (Barry
Bluff = squeezing limpers with marginal/shitty hands)

My problems are:-

- I'm spending a lot for not much gain from a single EV perspective - say, raising to 7bb for 2bb's worth of limping money and 1.5 blinds.
- I'm naturally aggressive postflop and find myself getting hammered by limp/called overpairs
- Apart from the TAGtards, people don't really like folding
- I don't have information on the blinds hands

Are there any other ways to exploit my opponents' limping errors?

I don't have any great answers, but I've noticed this trend, too. I've started widening my range and raising with things like A4s, but not just any two cards. Same problems you've noted - it's hard to make much $$ that way, and it has danger points.

Sad not to punish such donkfish play, though. Hope one of the regs has some good approach.

You first have to figure out what type of limper he is. There are two that I can think of right now.

The first type of limper calls your raises, but then folds to most c-bets. Just isolate this player a lot and you will make $$$. A lot of the time they don't even adjust, and when they do it becomes pretty obvious. This is harder to do OOP but still possible.

Second type of limper is the one that will call multiple streets with any piece of the board. This player is very tilting when you arent hitting the flop, but you'll probably get paid later. Just don't cbet unless you've got a hand.

Don't worry about valuetowning yourself.
Isolating fish is very profitable, you just have to konw the player a little bit.

I agree with JJDAMAN's two types of limpers.
I'll add a 3rd one, which is the one that limp/folds a lot.
If you pay attention a bit and make some notes early in your session you know quite soon which types are on your table. (there can be a difference in their calling range IP and OOP)

I am also wondering how profitable it is to raise limpers a lot more from the blinds (Ax, Kxs, any broadway, any PP, lots of SC's and 1 gappers, type of hands, just a shit load of them) because you'll be first to act on the flop and always fire it.

Surely PT helps here so that you know both how tight the table and individuals are.

Based on their vpip percentage I put them on a range and raise any hand that is in the top 45% of their limping range. I will do this as long as I am not likely to start a big multi way pot. I think minisim and JJdaman summed up the time of limper's there are perfectly. I think it's especially profitable to isolate the call/folds to cbet and limp/folds and I might even open up my raising range if I know I'll get a heads up pot. The limp/station I might make my range smaller and only pick hands that hit a lot of flops.
