Can anyone recommend DVD ripping freeware?
Also I'd like to something that can convert .avi -> .mp4 Ipod formats, etc.

you'll need a fabdecrypter,
vlc software
then you have to "shrink" it to fit on the dvd
you'll see what im talking about when you start doing yerself....
plus you'll need to update it every year if you plan on burning the newer movies they release cuz they always are coming up with new shit to keep their thumb on the peeps who do this sorta thing....
I got Nero 7 Ultra Edition for all my burning movie needs, it does some audio conversions as well. I think it came with my DVD burner so it was free for me!
these are all freeware
dvd shrink is good for copying dvd's, ripping the vob files to your harddrive, or ripping the iso image to your harddrive
dvd decrypter will rip the vob files/iso image to your pc also
videora ipod converter is an ipod converter :D
let me know if you have trouble finding any of these
Thanks man, both the dvd shrink and dvd decrypter haven't been modified for 3 years (or so the websites state). I dl'd decryptor and I tried ripping a DVD and it failed for some reason. Do I need to 'check for updates' so that it'll rip everything or is it not going to successfully rip the newer dvds?Quote:

ya neither of them are updated anymore but they still almost always work for me. you might try out DVDFab HD Decrypter. it's apparently supposed to be the "new" dvd decrypter so it's prob better at removing newer disc protections. i don't have much experience with it but it seems to be popular.Quote:

I have been wondering how to do this for a while now. As my boy gets older, I would rather he play with a burned fugazy than a $20 Disney DVD.
anydvd hd for decryption
your choice for encoding (good choices are tmpegenc, dvd-rb, cinemacraft encoder, mainconcept encoder, canopus procoder, and clonedvd or dvd shrink)
anydvd isn't free though
http://www.doom9.org/ and http://www.videohelp.com/ both have a bunch of decent step by step guides.
VLC does it and it's just the best media player anyway imo
