word. here's how my gf and i make ours. get some cloves of garlic, i use about 5-6 per bunch of asparagus and crush them and remove the skins. put a frying pan on medium heat, cook the garlic til it starts to brown. then add the asparagus. i dump about 80 ml of water on it then to prevent it from burning. i then add a portion of a cube of chicken bouillon (this isn't 100% necessary), and melt it into the asparagus and garlic. i then cover the asparagus with a big lid, let it cook for 4-6 minutes and test it out before taking it off the heat. i'm pretty sure you can substitute something else for the bouillon if you'd like.
Don't overcook it, it really doesn't need to be cooked very long.
very simple way to make it: preheat oven to 425, snap off the big white ugly stalks of asparagus (where it breaks is good), wash said asparagus, drizzle with a little olive oil and a little bit of salt if desired, bake 10 minutes or until desired tenderness.
side note: asparagus is an awesome vegetable from a nutritional perspective. and also tastes very good.
ya
After eating asparagus, try not to pee with the people still in your house.
microwave it on high in a covered dish with a little water for about 7 minutes . sprinkle with lemon juice, parmesan cheese, serve. do not overcook (should be crunchy).
side note: I have to add asparagus to my cooking rotation, it is easy to prepare and tastes awesome. And good for you.
awesome guys thanks. i think im going to do a bit of a mix of what a few ppl said. im going to saute it for a couple minutes with some olive oil and garlic, then grate parmesan over it and bake it in the oven for a few minutes.
also yeah asparagus kicks ass and is good for you. the one negative is it makes your piss smell pretty bad.
I'd recommend against microwaving any vegetables. There have been studies showing that nuking can remove some of the healthful benefits of vegetables (e.g. vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals). The lemon juice and parmesan cheese thing sounds delicious though.Quote:

agree, but I figure will's your typical lazy guy. I usually steam/boil them. I also grill em with a little olive oil.Quote:

this sounds excellent because everything with bacon is good.Quote:

i ended up cooking a shit load of them so "saute a couple minutes" is def wrong, but just cook them till they are just under cooked. baking them doesnt cook them that much. although, i didnt broil them, so that may change a bit.Quote:

mmmmmmm asparagus pee....
Buy a grill. Then soak it (along with red onion and red/yellow/orange/green peppers) in garlic and oil for half hour or so, then grill for a few miutes. Best shit ever.
Makes your piss smell like peanut butter though.
not sure if this was mentioned yet, but if your asparagus is any bigger than the really skinny stuff, then you should def peal it. The skin on thicker asparagus can be quite fiberous and unpleasant to chew through.
Someone mentioned sauteing the veg then pouring water on to sort of steam it to prevent burning. This is fine and all but I would highly suggest steaming/blanching the aspargus first then sauteing it. Otherwise you are just rinsing away the carmelization that you have achieved, thus rendering the whole sauteing step pointless.
Yeeah that makes sense. The stuff I had was real thick, and it tookQuote:

why would you assume this?Quote:

i think we have different approaches.. i just try to cook clean, healthy, tasty meals that don't take a whole lot of work. i don't care at all about fancy presentation or trying to make something that everyone else will love.Quote:

i see what you're saying though, i shouldn't lump everyone else in that category.
eggs benedict with aspagus on the side
yum
nah, nothing wrong with this. I would suggest taking some white wine and squeeze in some lemon juice, then reduce (cook it so a lot of the water/alcohol evaporates) then whisk butter into this. Season it with salt and pepper to taste. Pretty classic stuff.Quote:
