Jager's BR building exercise: $50 -> $500

The What: Take a pseudo $50 deposit and take it to $500, as quickly as possible.

The Why: To see what it would take if I had to start over or help someone else build a roll, what kind of time this could take and how my knowledge may help them.

The How: I plan on doing this playing 6max nl. This will also be done in my spare time, ie when I don't have enough time for a full 200nl session. I will start with 6 tables of 5nl with the extra $20 for reloading purposes, moving up as I see fit. There are NO BR requirements to move up or down a level, as someone could always just reload the $50 at some future point.

This is all I can think of right now. I hope to have this done in under 10k hands total. Also I started this last night, and I will have 2 updates coming later. I would like to know if this seems reasonable to those who are playing the micros? Is there anything you would change?

If you normally play the 200 game the main adjustment you will notice is that your opponents are pretty much just playing the strength of their own hand.

Alright well I started at 5nl last night. After about 5 min. I realized that I needed to get to 10nl asap. So I figured I needed about $60 so I could at least 4 table $10nl. Well it took about 2 hours and 1k hands to get it but I did.

The main problem with this level is I was the only player buuying in for $5. The players are just awful, but most of them only had $1-2 to give. The 2 BI's I won feel like about 10. I think it may prudent to not play this level as it is almost as bad as the play money games.

It gets worse before it gets better. I did this for real back in February. GL

I must have missed this. How long did it take? How much did you deposit to get going again?

I withdrew everything but $200 when I went back to work and stopped playing full time in February. I started a small series of vids on grinderschool, but the series got derailed. It took me about 2 months to get back to $50NL through every stake starting at $5NL and another 6 to get to $100NL for the last time with some failed shots. I ran horrible too. You should be able to do it quicker. If I had to do it again I think I could get to $100NL in about 3 or 4 months

I also used very strong BR management. I moved up after like 25 BI's for $25NL and under and 30 for $50NL and up. I was never going to redeposit. I am sitting on almost $6K now with a ton of withdraws.

Well I did not play my A game at all in this session. I spewed off a BI when I bluffed a Q45Qr board, he had AQ obv. Some things I have noticed is that there are very few Solid Tag types. This kinda surprised me, I guess 'cause I thought that people were trying to move up from this level. The play here is extremely bad, and the ones who seem solid were easily tilted. I got into 3-4 'chat wars' about how bad I was because of something I did, not because they jammed QJo preflop. I didn't really defend myself or attack their play, but this happens maybe once every couple months at 1/2. Well about $8 more and Im gonna try a 2 BI shot at 25nl.

My current 10nl thoughts:
This level is incredibly soft, but at the same time poker is all about postflop play. Almost any type of preflop strat will work here if you have a solid postflop game. I also think that many of the fish might have a better postflop game, or at least one that fits their style, than most of the FTR beginner's who are trying to learn. I think this because the fish play alot of hands, which leads to more postflop experience. The beginning Tag type is playing a stronger range, but they might not be seeing a whole lot of flops. This will lead to not getting enough value when they do hit, as the players at this level seem to be folders more than callers.

Well I hit $150 and moved up to 25nl. Then was kinda card dead, if thats even possible for 263 hands, but managed to get it AI pre w/AK v AQ. So Im about 12 BI's away at 25nl, I am thinking about moving up to 50nl at some point, but that might be too extreme for this experiment.
