Mid term objectives, Asd Ops 2

I guess today is as good a day as any to start a second thread with updated objectives and hopes :)

1st thing i just did is withdraw all my money from Party. Not doing it for me lately (and no rakeback).

And for the objectives:

1st. move up to 5/10
2nd. get my first 5 figure month (including rb/bonuses)
3rd. log 50k+ hands each month (with RB!)
4th. keep bitching! :twisted:

I'll add some more as they come up. In the meantime, I'll post my stats as of today:

-$350 today. Couldn't hit water if i fell off a boat. My fishy opponents certainly could :(

Anyways, i'm not upset since i didnt play terrible or anything, and just stopped playing when i felt microtilt showing its ugly head.

So, things are still looking fine, I'll just keep grinding :)

Hrm.. You want to be playing 5/10 LHE soon and you haven't had a $1k+ month including bonuses/rb yet? If you are logging any decent amount of hands, I think you should have hit this landmark at 2/4 or 3/6 long ago if your winrate is even half decent...

Edit- okay your stats page there is working now, my net is just being shitty. Your winrates look good, but I wouldn't recommend trying to jump head first into a 50k hand month if you haven't play that often before. It becomes much harder to keep a good winrate the more you play within a short period of time.

Edit- okay your stats page there is working now, my net is just being shitty. I am gettin 4 figures for the past 6+ months
I'm loggin about 30-40k h/month right now, so 50k is not such a big thing.

Take into account the stats shown on the PT3 screenshot are only for PT3 supported sites, and i play other sites too :)

I sometimes am such a big EGO i'll keep playing and not recognise i'm outmatched. That's a big LEAK for many people. I've been pluggin it lately, with all the table selection and datamining i do, looking for the fish. Still sometimes, its hard to be humble and just leave in defeat.

So, I will say this, this reg is very smart and knows some about poker. He deserves recognition for doing what most people fail to do.

And this is why i say i'm improving at HU, because i am learning the lesson that this dude already knows: If there are fish around, why stay with the sharks?

agreed. but, all the same, i would love to play you in a half hour small stakes session HU. i know you and i would take nickels as seriously as hundreds...against each other. i say focus on the "regular" game, but keep it in mind as another side challenge.

i have had that leak, too. and, its hard to tell when you are feeding your ego, or just enjoying the severe challenge. either way, it's always better to go in search of fish.

on area i have improved the most right now.... i am ANAL about table selection right now. and, it WAS showing. i will update mine later tonight, hopefully, but, i got absolutely crushed today. i havent had a 40 bb downer in a single session in a loooong time. and, every time i had something solid, they flopped the nuts. i actually had a guy read, correctly, on quads against my boat. but, who can trust that read in a 15 bb+ pot? not me. i read AQ going runner runner to the straight and smashing my AK. i even called it in the chat. saw another four card straight with a ragged 8 hit the river on my friggin set.

just one of those days. i played fine, imo. i just didnt flop well, and when i did, i could tell you EXACTLY what was in his hand.

maybe better to play a freezeout with play money, with a side bet, to avoid the rake

playing micro HU is suicide, i only play 2/4+ with 85% rakeback

anyways... CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

i am now suffering from smaller samples and variance, a bit, so i am struggling to get over 2 at my levels. and, i run about 22/17....and am still a bit tight. but, then again, thats only from stars....cake has to be better, i just cant track it.

i may need to update mine in my thread soon.

I feel bored now... the challenge is to see how long i can keep up the winrate at Bodog.

This month has been pretty good, but i think i need a holiday, another one. Hard to keep playing when u are unbeatable running good against terrible competition, there is no challenge.
Focus and perseverance, grinding is a job, but how to keep grinding when u have won so much already? I mean, in 15 days, i've made 2months worth of profit, and i dont even have any plans to spend them on anything.

Moving up? too soon... and why? with those donks giving me money, why bother?

50k hands? well that i've almost done (30k at FTP, 5k at Bodog, Xk at the rest of sites) but again... why bother?

Guess i need to find again and renew that interest i had at the beginning, that made me work so hard on my game, cause this is just booooooring.

sock most of it away because variance may likely be coming. however, take a portion of it and do something fun. something that you enjoy doing, poker related or not.....just blow some of the wad.

on a smaller scale, last night, a buddy and i were grinding the DONs, and we crushed. we have both had huge months up in the mid 60's for ITM numbers. however, we felt frisky. so, we 4 tabled up some ultramicro NL games and slapped some fish around. i think i ran 16/100 over a few hundred hands.

long story short, we were there to donk off some cash because we had it to burn. we also realized how much better our hand reading skills have become. it was terribly simple...even at 2NL.

but, like i said, it doesnt have to be poker related. i will be getting into photography again, and i plan to blow a portion of the wad on equipment. when i feel like just blowing some cash, i will jump in the car and drive to a spot, snap off some pics, and spend some time making them look all perty.

whatever floats your boat.

i tried. my "spanish as a second language" classes will never pay off i guess. that sucks, too, because i am 3 hours short of a minor in spanish at the college level. too much time on conjugation of verbs, tenses, and reading stories. and, not enough time on common language uses and slang. i swear they dont teach you anything over here that isnt written down for them already.

I ended at -$40 tonight, that may not be a lot for you guys since you're ballers but damn!!! This guy i swear kept hitting on every awesome hand i had. I called a raise pre flop and it was 1 on 1.

was i wrong for b/r'ing like that?

bear in mind this is the same player that was raising preflop with 83o and K2o etc

I'm reading The Psychology of Poker by A Schoonmaker. I don't think it's too good for any experienced winning player, and so I would only recommend it to new players or mediocre players. But there is one thing in it that is not too bad.
It explains different motives/excuses/objectives people have for playing poker, and while reading it, it made me think how YES, ITS ALL RELATIVE.
We may think it's not like that, but most people dont play poker to make money, or even to win. Of those who do, there are different levels in the priority we give to making money (i have to pay rent, some just want some extra spending money, some are in it for the challenge more than the net winnings).
Our bankrolls affect how we play, and, obviously, whatever our bankroll, we will have a loss-acceptance threshold (Sklansky and Caro spoke about this but I cant remember the term they used).
Given whatever BR and our loss tolerance, losing X% of our BR in a very short time will make us TILT and feel terrible, but X is a percentage, and not a NET value. Thus, losing $40, may feel as bad to someone with certain motivations and a limited BR, as $1k feels to me given my motivations and BR.

I am thinking of not playin at Bodog anymore... support issues, no PT, software...

But the fish! OMG! if i had so many bad beats its because they play sooooo bad.

Anyways, i'm down to about only 1k profit + $500 bonus + rakeback (~$600) since i started there 1 month ago, which is the greatest downswing ever after being up so big, but i am playin HU, so maybe these are the breaks. Especially with these fish that will hit a few lucky hands, win 200 off u, and leave the table :(

Well, that is if i win, i just think it funny to do so bad at LHE and so good at NL today. And I must say, I am very happy with how I played the SnGs. I should've done that all day long, and no LHE passive tables!

Basically, find a Step 6 where you will not find Johnny_Fish, shaundeeb or mig.com sitting and you'll be fine.

Wow, tough call with the Step 6 prize. Do you play for the best package or play the odds? Monte Carlo is a sweet $18K trip and buy-in but that Step 6 only pays out one package. Conversely, Punta del Esta pays out three packages and $500 for 4th but who the fuck wants to go to Uruguay?

(Actually, I do, but I'm goofy and that's just not as funny as "who the fuck wants to go to Uruguay".)

There's a $2,100 SCOOP NLHE tourney, which is the same price as a Step 6 ticket, so maybe they'll give you that option. Stars Support is really good like that.

I think i'd rather play the odds, wouldn't feel nice to blow it in the last step and have nothing to show for it.

Uruguay is also a good option for me. It's the birthday of my friend Pepa, and I promised her i'd try to make it (she lives in Buenos Aires), so it would be like killin 2 birds with one stone.

On the other hand, i've always wanted to play in one of those big stars COOP championships, i'm really interested in the LHE 6max and limit OH8 events. We'll see.

FTP points really do suck large. I suggest selling them in the 2+2 marketplace or something.

long time no update

celebrating 1year since my last LHE losing month (march 2008, -$136.35)

Ran GOOT these days at 3/6 (6max). :)
Ran BAAD these days at OnGame 1/2 (5max). -$500!! :(
I dont know why they have 5max instead of 6max.

So, i havent lost focus on my set objective of moving up to 5/10, but i'm trying to build that confidence along with the roll. I have become much more conservative in BR management after realizing how big my StDev is. And I would like to log at least 50k hands at 3/6 (6max) before. 33k so far. 2k hands at 5/10.

The 5figure month was almost achieved on Jan.
Feb was the flipside of the coin, tho, with big losses at Bodog, and compensating winnings at FTP (+RB).

In the meantime, i'm grinding the ongame $1k bonus, and logging enough hands at FTP to keep the iron man thing going.

Done with Bodog, after so many many many problems with them. And after the big february downswing. Overall, it was still profitable. Close to +$2.5k (rb and bonus included) in 2months.

Should finish grinding the Stars $250 bonus i've got going, and i think i'll get the Stox DVD with the FPPs.
I know most here wouldn't buy a poker dvd ever. But what can I say, I'm a fan!

Anyways, just keeping this alive until I post my stats update (when I reach 400k hands). Coming soon!

lost about $600 at 3/6 today. Good thing all those big pots where just coolers and account for about $400 in losses

for the rest, it was ok, a little micro-tilt, but ok.

i dont understand what the "start a riot may 1st" thing is all about. starting a riot just to start a riot would be pretty dumb. but, if a protest has some sort of significant meaning, then so be it. however, protesting in the US is a bit different....amendment 1, "right to peaceably assemble." ...or something close to that. riots are NOT peaceful assembly, and, therefore, are against the constitution.

i agree with anyone's right to protest something, but i dont agree with getting in my face about it or disrupting the general flow of a day (blocking traffic, for example). i know you would feel its the only way to get noticed, but i still dont think its fair to get in my face about something i likely dont give a shit about for your personal agenda.

i am right-winged, but not too vocal about it. i know you, asd, are left of me to be sure, but it doesnt have to make us douches towards each other (which we arent). so, i dont get why someone would jump in and slam the proverbial door on any thread for any reason....other than spamming or ruthless flaming.

start any thread you want, in the appropriate forum, and if it grows legs, it grows legs. the ultimate bitchslap to censorship is my right to either view/participate or avoid/ignore.

for instance, alcohol and smoking taxes. i dont care. i drink, but i dont smoke. i pay taxes on what vice i participate in. if it bothers me too much, i avoid that particular vice.....and therefore dont pay the tax. no big deal. toll roads are another great example. if you dont like the toll, take another route. (of course this is provided the revenue generated goes to something remotely related to the subject matter that generated it in the first place.)

i dont understand where you think it isnt allowed to be a "leftist" over here. we have a rather liberal (prolly not by your standards) government right now, with a president that is on the same page. and, they are spending us deeper into oblivion, imo. plenty of people voted for all of them, not just Obama.

and, i dont see anything wrong with capitalism, like most of you Euros. its not evil. it provides incentive to earn what you want and set the bar as high, or low, as you want. it gives choice and opportunity. sure, with that some wont feel that they are treated fairly, but thats life. its not fair. i would rather government just stay out of my way and let me provide for myself. but, things arent as much that way as they were just 50 years ago over here, either. oh well. nothing i can do but keep voting the way i vote.
