Villain seems pretty tight preflop, no better reads.
What's the plan in this hand?

UTG bets $7, Hero wants a plan

I fold but im a nit, and i also dont like to get in uncomfortable situations.

I would fold. Villain raised UTG and a it's bad board to cbet so he likely has a goodish hand at least. You're forced to give up on any turn bet and villain is barreling it often if he's bluffing the flop, because he has a high heart if he's bluffing at the flop.

Assuming we don't fold here, what is a better option, raising or calling?

I fold here, if he doesn't have a higher flush draw he won't pay us off. We could raise as a bluff/semi-bluff but he might just ship it in with an overpair, if he's a tight UTG opener the only thing he's really folding is AK/AQ/KQ w/out a heart. Calling is the worst option imo.

There are really two options here imo: Fold or Raise. If this guy is tight, it is likely that you can rep a flush by raising here and raising or betting the turn. The thing is that you have only commited 4 bucks so far and repping a flush is a pretty over-aggro line starting from such a small pot, so I think fold is best. I dont think you are ever ahead here and he could also be drawing to a better flush than you are.

Raising here would rep a much wider range than a flush.


I'd fold here; reverse implied odds, implied threat, etc..

Raising here sucks so bad, you fold out like 20% of his hands which is not nearly enough. I just estimated 20% but if you check pokerstove im sure its not to far from it

Pretty easy fold if you think he's nitty AND he's UTG.

If I wanted to continue I'd flat the flop and re-evaluate.

The problem with raising is that he can ship AhK, AhQ,AhJ, Khx etc etc pretty comfortably and expect to have pretty decent equity vs most of our range here. Not to mention that you'd probably be raise-folding 7h7 if you decided to raise it here? So we're folding the best hand often too.

If we flat, his equity drops a lot on a blank turn.

that makes a lot of sense...when I said that I was thinking he would only call our raise because when we call from position it is more likely that we hold some sort of suited connector that would have hit here and the villian would be nervous enough to flat

Anyways, I decided to flat, and the turn came 8s, and he barreled a reasonable size, something like 2/3-3/4 PSB.

I guess i should learn to read posts better,

In this spot, its really situational.

I like to raise or fold depending on the situation, with a hand like yours.

I like to float if i got a hand with more outs and some deceptiveness. Like a gutshot/open ender, overcards w/gutshot etc.

In your case we're almost always raising/floating to bluff the hand away on later streets, so i always ask myself before hand: Does he cbet alot? Does he give up hands easy? (a good sign of this is to see if he is multitabling, or you can recall from earlier you've played a hand vs him). Another thing you can ask yourself is, have i been tight lately? have i taken many pots away from him? has he made a huge laydown lately? If he has just won alot of money he might lay his hand down easier..

Normally i just fold but if he is the kind of guy who doesnt go further than a cbet, or your questions match up, then i raise.

dunno if i explained myself well enough tho, so just say if you want it better explained

edit - didn't see that UTG = CO

Probably just fold, but if it was vs an UTG, raise flop a lot.
