200 nl A4s 3w postflop

This may or may not be a simple hand but Im interested in what people think about my flop check.

BTN is 33/24 over 55 hands. His stats were tighter at the time of the hand. SB is a relatively unknown at this time.

I think this may bring up some good discussion tbh. I think a ton of people will cbet this flop but Im thinking that checking is good too.

is it me, or does everyone in the world know that you can't beat AJ here

this hand seems similar to the 88 hand you posted with J654 board. again we have a hand at the bottom of our value range once we get to the turn, and bet/folding let's us get value from numerous drawing hands, KQ and other floats. most importantly though keeping the initiative in this hand makes our decisions easier, which for us SSNL guys means we will make fewer mistakes.

i think we should cbet this flop 98% of the time

I dont mind this, but with BDFD + BDSD plus how drawy the board currently is I'd be more inclined to bet flop.

checking is bad because we're giving up control
when we check/call it sure looks like we have Ace weak kicker right? would you bet a good draw here for instance, or would you check/call?

if you call I think turn is a fold (would you call turn and fold river?) - a lot of people with draws will put you on Ax and see a cheap river here.

BET flop, continue if turn is diamond, or wheel card perhaps, obv turn 3 etc ...

if turn blank it can be a decent spot to check/call because opps range includes str8 and flush draws and I think many players opt to try and bluff turns rather than rivers in spots like these.

Why is giving up control bad?

I think when there isn't a ton of value in betting (as in this case), it's often good against some players to induce bluffs and bets from worse hands by checking. Betting is fine though, obviously. Turn is probably a fold.

I don't think I would fold turn or river, given the line you took it hugely increases the amount of bluffs in his range.

we could also use a check/bet line here?
it'll surely confuse villain and not let him check back his draws on the turn.

i think if you're going to take this line, especially when the river pairs the 2nd card, you should be c/f'ing. i cant see folding the turn really to a 1/2 pot bet, especially after picking up 4 more outs.

Yea Id kinda agree. Firstly I think opp can perceive us as having Qx as our most likely hand, some Ax and maybe other PPs (which i wont have but he may think i do). I expected him to check back on the Q but he bet it which I felt was weird, alot of opp can check back most Ax hands here (we can discount big hands that would 3bet). So when he bets river given my likely holding is Qx he either has 23,44,55, QT-QJ, its a pretty small range compared to the potential amount of draws on offer. ALong with his odd bet sizing I dont think I can fold river for less than half pot.

Problem is if opp bet 2/3 or 3/4 pot on flop, turn and river it would be sick and I could see myself folding river obv but maybe even turn. Would ppl call a 3/4 bet on turn???
