10NL: trip 7's w/ Jack kicker facing all in

This hand was pretty early in the session. I could tell this villain was limping in with a very wide range of hands, but I hadn't really gotten any reads on how he plays post-flop.

I figure the guy has a legitimate hand, but in the back on my mind I was wondering if he could be making a move with something like 10 9 of diamonds. I was also a little worried he might have been slow playing and made a set on the flop since, other than the fact that he liked to limp in a lot, I didn't have any reads on the guy.

Is my jack kicker likely to be good here?

If you think that range is about accurate than call- but it's a good thread because I normally fold in a spot like that- I was a little surprised at our equity against that range.

I can't imagine the villain not putting some sort of bet in if he hit the flop. If he's got two pair, (A7, 87) he has to start building a pot for value. He could have had a naked ace, and now that he has two pair, he feels better about getting a chop against another ace. He could have the 15-outer, as you suggest, and be happy to either win the hand here or get a call and chase. If he had 88, he's got to bet the flop at least a micro amount to see if you guys have anything to call with.

Of course, if he crushed the flop, he might be hoping one of you takes a stab at it, and could be stacking off with Ax, but without some read on him, it's tough to know.

i guess i am a lowly 2nl player, but imo tons of people like to check their 2pairs, sets on the flop to try and slowplay, especially if he is a fish that is limpling a lot

Well, the pot was 7.29, and it was going to be 5.99 to call, so I would have needed 45.1% equity to call. Using the most conservative range I could come up with (see below), it looks like I had 52% equity.
