How to Lose Money (A Hand)

So, I lost money on this hand, in my opinion by poor betting. I called from BB w/ a marginal hand, but it got better. My immediate deconstruction is that I should have pushed hard as soon as I got the set, but how hard? What is the *right* play here?

Raise when I turn up the pair?

Push hard when I complete the set?

Slow down when there's a flush possibility on the table?

I lead these type of flops often. c/c sucks.

as played bet turn way bigger. like at least .30.

Folding flop is better I think, he's just led into 4 people it's likely he has middle pair beat and we'll have to check fold the vast majority of turns anyway.

Edit: Yeah we can lead flop all day, don't c/c.

Bet close to pot on turn; your 1/4 pot is an epic fail, it wont induce too many raises from top pair or even like 77 88.

River over-bet probably folds out a 6 and maybe even 77 88 99 whatever other crap he's limping preflop and playing this way. I'd bet like 60c on river as played.

If you build the pot properly though on the turn, you migth not feel the overwhelming need to bet 150% of the pot.

The fact you lost here and he didn't raise river means he is fucking terrible, so at least note that he flats nut hands when you're pot comitted to call off the rest.

Oh, actually, that's my ignorance of the lingo. I had thought a set was any three-of-a-kind, but I just went and looked it up in the Poker Lingo article, and I see that's wrong.

Someone already told you what a set is, vs trips.
Pushing=shoving=going all in.
You use the term "push" when you should be using the term "bet"

There is no reason to call the flop bet, so we don't even need to talk about turn play. Eliminate mistakes on early streets.

However, we should talk about turn and river play cos of bet sizing. Don't be betting 1/4 pot for value on a drawy board, it gives most draws pot-odds to call and provides trivial value.

As a general rule, you'll need a stronger hand to continue the more people who see the flop.
