I watch too many videos, Weeeee!

This hand is from memory so the HH will be a little jumbled. I don't know if this is read dependent or just a straight spew from watching CR vids.

Villain was running 28/16/2ish, BU steal was ~30%. His F23bet was a little low, like high 40's and I was 3betting probably about 12% of hands at the table over 60-80 hands. Preflop, our history was one of building mistrust by folding before showdowns and his occasional 4bet. Our only previous postflop history was that he c/c TPGK on a wet flop after he was the PFRer & I called his river donk with TPMK after pot controlling the turn. He is actually playing more aggro than our only noted encounter would indicate but not maniacal.

100NL 6max full table, effective stacks are $160ish
Hero in SB dealt AJo.

Preflop: Folded to villain who raises to $3 OTB. I resteal to $13, villain calls.

Flop($27): A:heart: K:spade: Q:heart:
Hero checks, villain bets $13, Hero calls.

Turn($53): A:heart: K:spade: Q:heart: J:diamond:
Hero donks $25, villain raises to $61, Hero calls leaving $75 behind.

River($175): A:heart: K:spade: Q:heart: J:diamond: K:club:
Hero checks with intention of folding? I would c/c any non-K, Q, or heart and shove any A or J.

I'm pretty sure it looks like a total spew but here's my thought process:
I am ahead pre-flop and 3bet for value/meta. When called I put him on his upper 12+% range less 3% for KK+ or AK as he would likely 4bet them to play back at my resteals. I would even discount QQ & AQ. That leaves PPs <=JJ & KQ or some suited broadways(KJs,QJs) & even SCs. I c/c the flop because betting folds out worse, only gets calls from better and my hand can't stand any heat on this board. Villains flop bet seems small weird on this board with deepish stacks. I donked the turn because I think worse 2pr and draws will still call a smallish bet but may check back the turn. The river K is terribad for my hand, so I plan to c/f and hope for a free showdown.

river odds are so sick, but i can't see villain ever bluffing at this broadway-a-thon board in a 3b pot, so you're basically playing for a split.

without running it through stove, i have to imagine there are enough Kx and Tx hands and random slow-played pairs in his range to make it not worth calling a <1/2PSB for a split when his betting range is heavily weighted toward him checking his Ax hands (especially given the TPGK hand you mentioned).

Your turn bet makes absolutely no sense and I would never do it. Flop seems fine river is certainly a c/f.

I don't get turn the turn donk. To me your reasoning should lead to check turn, lead river when turn checks through.

Preflop isn't really a reasteal... it's fine for value. Calling is an option, and I'd 3b less. ~11-ish

You realize that the turn didn't improve your hand? You now beat QK, but you loose against AT.
The only reason I would check this flop is if I know that the villain will turn into a maniac at any sign of weakness. Otherwise I c-bet pretty much 100% after 3-betting oop pre.

Terminology issue: I call any 3bet OOP a resteal even if for value; IP I call them 3bets to keep my player notes easier to follow.

I thought the turn improved my hand against one of his most likely holdings that I was behind: KQ & also against an unlucky KJ. I also feel confident that this villain would check that flop back with AT.
The turn bet was designed to keep FDs & weaker 2prs from checking back.

Is pot control on the turn better than maximizing value vs 2prs/Ax & defending against draws at the expense of bloating the pot?

I'm surprised more people didn't comment that calling the turn raise is a spew?

So you think he'll check back Ax, but he'll bet KJ, QJ?

The problem I see with this is that it's an utterly confusing line, and I don't think you'll get lots of calls by KQ, KJ, JQ... on the turn with that bet sizing.
That and the range you're getting value from by donking the turn, you would get more value from by just c-betting the flop and turn imo.
