$50 to $1100 done. Where now?

Story so far

Have been playing heads up at 0.01/0.02 for either 5pounds or 5euro buy ins using strict guidelines.

Only playing when villians buy in for max

Not playing anybody who raises the button (these only make up about 15% of players so are easy to avoid)

Sitting out when the villain is down to less than 1.00



BR started with a deposit of $50 and is now about $1100 Taking about 6 weeks.



The idea at the start was to just get a decent roll and cash out around a few hundred a month to add to my earnings from work.

However I would like some input and thoughts on where I should go now. I have a couple of options I am thinking about.


1) Keep put and use the $1100 as a base and keep playing the bad players at the lowest low stakes and withdraw about $400 a month, this is the easiest option and hardly requires me to use my brain during the sessions.

2) Look at testing myself against the players who are positionally aware but stay at 5pound and 5euro tables.

3) take shots at 10 and 20 buy in tables but only play those what are not positionally aware. I realise that there will be less unware players at 10 and then again at 20, so will spend more time waiting for fishy action. But the result would be getting to a bankroll base (maybe $2500) where I would be able to play at 10/20 buy ins and withdraw maybe $600/$700 pcm.

Anyway enough of my ramblings, any advice??





On a footnote, I know bumhunting is frowned upon, but I am not in this for the ego and pride of beating better people, this is simply a money making exercise.

We make money from bums, it's the best way to earn money. Fuck the haters.

How about do some bonus whoring? Not sure where you play but a lot of poker rooms have 100% bonuses up to $600.

Even with the most ridiculous table selection I don't think you can realistically expect to keep winning at this rate. There's a good chance you caught the chocolate side of variance in the past couple of weeks. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't keep going like that.
As long as you can get enough tables going against total droolers, there's no shame in doing that. I vote for moving up and learning to beat slightly more competent players as you go.

Be a bit more competitive. It will pay off in the long run.

The win rate might start to slow down if players dont play me, A few people have seen my name in the top winners list at micro heads up stakes so dont play me anymore.

Players bluffing all in with like $4 at at 30c pot with total air.

Players 3,4 or even 5betting me on the river with the ignorant end of the straight

3betting with a straight when a 1 card to a flush is on

and the old adage. Inability to fold big PPs when the flop/turn are super wet and I show aggrr.

Finding HU games becomes a huge problem when you move up to low/midstakes and beyond. I have given up on playing heads-up tables. I can open 20 tables with one player sitting and I will end up with zero games a minute later because they look me up on ptr, or they see how many tables I'm playing, or they know my SN. That's a real problem for the heads-up games. You have a thousand terrible regs who do nothing but bumhunt.
Obviously you're free to do everything within the rules to maximize the profit. But I'm positive that poker sites will think of a way to combat that much like they did with the professional shortstackers.

No, the winrate will slow down. idk how many hands you play... but 1k in 6 weeks of 5NL means you're running hot for sure. Even with a 10ptbb overall winrate you could be breaking even or slightly loosing over the same sample just by running into the other end of variance... but you'll see for yourself soon enough.

I have experienced variance for sure. I openly admit that I would get crushed at 50nl and probably 20nl right now.

You rise an interesting debate. Some poker rooms have started to limit the number of heads up tables you can open at any one time to reduce bhunting a bit. But thats all they can do. As the player I have the right to decide who I play, nobody else. And TBH as long as they get rake they dont really care imo. Lets face it, the only people who are fussed are the reg winners that play HU and they are a very small minority.

RE original post. have decided to go for option 2, and have beaten a few of the better 5nl players tonight. Although I will be happy to keep milting the tards as well.

Another benefit of the bottom of the bottom stakes is you get a lot of players with th last 10 or 20 dollars of there roll looking to tilt it off.

The point of playing better people is to improve. It's not like when you first started poker you dreamt about crushing idiots @ 5NL.

The sites can do several things like making heads-up tables anonymous or allowing people to change their sn once a month or change the heads-up tables to a HU sng type structure without blind increases where you're forced to play a certain number of hands. The sites certainly don't love it because at 200NL+ for every 20 players sitting at heads-up tables there are two actually playing.
The funny thing is that there are loads of ring game regs that are way more solid heads-up than any of the heads-up regs because they actually play heads-up when they start tables or the tables break.

And just as one last thought: A passive fish isn't necessarily more profitably to a competent player than a reg is. There are loads of regular winning players who I would quit all my other games for if they agreed to play me heads-up. It just depends on how good you are at finding their leaks and exploiting them.

Question: Do you make money in poker by playing people you don't have an edge against on a regular basis?

I dont see poker as a game where I want to prove myself against the best.

I see it as a nice seconadary income that I beats working a second job and I can do whilst sitting in the garden or watching the footy. I am sure other bumhunters would concur.

And all I want right now is minimum effort maximum result.

And my decision is made keep at low stakes.

With regard to blank names it wouldnt work for me. As soon as anybody started to raise the button and fold oop I would leave (as I do now).

I'm happy if people come here to improve... I'm just as happy if they don't :D
