I applied like three times over the last few months. The laptop is pretty cool. Since it runs off of a flash drive it is quiet and fairly light weight. It boots up and shuts down really fast. There's a developer hidden switch behind the battery that allows you to get to a shell. I guess that it's possible to partition the flash drive and you can load multiple OSs and other fun stuff. All in all, I think that it's a great beta machine and I like Google's idea of being totally in the cloud. My only complaints so far is that I can't watch vids on Netflix because they haven't worked this out yet. Not a concern considering this is a beta device. Oh, the other thing that is cool is that Google gives you free 100MB a month of 3G connection through Verizon if you can't find some wifi. If you don't like Verizon, you can also sign-up through other carriers but for a price.
