2 billion to watch Royal Wedding

We Brits are being confidently informed that 2 billion people will be watching Friday's Royal Wedding. As this is about 30% of the entire world's population and time differences mean many people will have to get up very early or stay up very late to watch it, I find this figure very hard to believe.

Our media has absolutely no restraint when it comes to sucking up to the Royal Family. I wondered what is the reaction in other countries. Is it being shown live? Will you watch it? Is there any anticipation/excitement about it?

This is like that "1 billion people watch the Superbowl" BS.

apparently the US media is in a frenzy about this, according to the UK media at least. I have no idea why though, seeing as most Americans don't seem to care that much.

But yeah, two 4-day weekends in a row is fine by me. I'd be more inclined to watch though if kate was doing some sort of live televised nude photo shoot.

Looking up some TV Guides on the internet and the wedding is being shown live from 4am on all main networks in the US and on 3 channels in France. So I guess it will be on in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and all of Europe at least.

The marriages, coronations and deaths of other monarchs around the world get scant attention in the UK - a 30 second item on the news at best. Almost everyone in this thread has said they are not bothered, so why the live coverage?
