Is not calling here a leak?

Villain has only been at the table for about 6 or 7 hands and has only played 1 hand so far. So no reads and meaningless stats. It was 8 handed up to a hand or two before this when a couple of players left.

The widest range I could think to put him on is JJ+, AKs, AKo(and that was being generous) and that gives me 42% equity and I need 46% to call so it seems a clear fold to me.

Am I playing too tight or is it reasonable to just fold this and wait for a better opportunity when I have more info on villain?

fold is fine, just don't go telling everyone about it ;)

thought i was the only one folding these spot, i even did it on QQ some spots. folding isnt bad cause only you know you'r cards and my opinion is that you dont have enough info on him to give him a wide enough range to call. to have enough equity we need him to shove TT+, AK and some AQs combos.

by math, even QQ is a fold here vs QQ+, AK and slight + EV vs JJ+,AK.

if we was opening and we were 3betting to 1$ and he shoves, then yeah, AKs and QQ are a must call, but AK is slight -EV vs QQ+, AK. if he is JJ+,AK then we must call QQ,AK.

I'm not folding this versus an unknown for 40bb O:

Even if you put him on like JJ+/AK you have to discount a lot of QQ+ combos.

utg has an ace, a king, or a queen a lot of the time when opening from UTG = discount QQ+ combos from the shortstacks range, as well as the obviously fewer combos out there when we hold blockers etc.
Somehow i thought this was 4nl when i first replied - this isn't a fold vs the 40bb jam cos JJ etc. Stats/reads on UTG are important however and you don't provide those.

I figured it was something like that but wasn't exactly sure.

As for UTG stats........17/13, fold to 3bet 50%(2), seemed solid and sensible but only 86 hands.

Ok, seems the consensus is a call and with more thought about it, I can see why. Specially as it was only 40bb.

^ Not sure if you really mean that, but you aren't calling JUST b/c its only 40bb. Thats still lots of $$. You are calling/shoving b/c him being a s/s means you are probably stacking up well vs his short stack range

No I didn't meant JUST because it is 40bb. I meant that with everything else taken into account the fact that he was a s/s pushing for 40bb is a significant factor in making this a call.

For example if he was full stacked and shoved for 100bb, the situation would be different and may not be a call.(depending on reads, stats etc)

i really dont see this as a call, even if he is TT+ , AK we have just 43% equity and we need 47%.if UTG comes along, our equity is even lower. some one pls explain me why calling here is +EV?

Because as usual you're assigning a likely range for your opponent that's too tight.

He can easily be jamming like AQ AJ etc etc more pairs than this. In the nut worst scenario this is a fold, but often a random 40bbers range is going to be a good bit wider than TT+ AK.

Because I can't see how he's shoving TT and not AQ, and if he's shoving AQ we're favored vs. his range.

Just call. If you feel uneasy about gambling here your bankroll isn't deep enough.

Didn't feel uneasy about gambling so much as I had no info on MP villain and was wondering if I was putting him on too tight a range. I can see that for the general s/s at micros I was and it should have been a call at least and probably a shove to get HU.

Depends entirely on UTG on what I do here. I disregard the unknown completely. It's a really easy get it in versus him.

I think it is okay to fold here if you don't want to much variance.

If UTG isn't spewy this is a fold for me.

You're ahead or flipping with MP and would love to gamble here, however UTG is probably going to continue with like AK, QQ+, probably JJ, maybe TT, 99/88 if he's really feeling like you're FoS AQ if you're lucky, suited broadways if he's a true degenerate gambler (mostly a live thing.)
