The problem with these is that you almost choose your own profile. The questions are so vague that you can fill in almost any set of details to justify one choice over the other.
ESFJ
is this the same test as in this thread? http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...es-160321.html
also INTP
agree this is an oversimplified exercise and I question whether or not an even properly-executed one would have any merit to it whatsoever, but, here is how I scored:
Your Type is
ENTJ
Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Judging
Strength of the preferences %
1 88 1 33
Expanding on why I think this is stupid: Consider that the questions often require you to answer in an absolute 'yes/no' manner when there are usually quite a few shades of grey in between; "Is it easy for you to communicate in social situations" ? Well, mostly. Not always, right? Much depends on what type of social situations we're talking about.
Another possible impact is that respondents might answer positively to some socially-related questions and negatively to others, either consciously or subconsciously, just to sort of 'even out' how they will be judged by the survey.
Anyway, I could go on, but those two particular points bugged me a bit.
I do not like the Myers-Briggs test. I identify well with about four different types
This, however, is an extremely good test. It pinpointed me better than I could have in a description of myself.
Chemistry a new online dating site from Match.com for singles
My primary trait is Estrogen/Negotiator, secondary is Testosterone/Director.
INTJ 33/50/50/33
Pretty sure mine was ENTP when I took one of these a few years ago.
Wiki says the test sucks. Sorry :(
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I didn't realize how unreliable this test was! I figured 70+ questions and being on the top of the google search results was pretty good.
Perhaps these tests are most reliable for those with distinctly expressed traits in all four dimensions of the personality profile (like me).
yes this looks like the same test as the MBTI personality types. very small sample size, but from that data it looks like the _NTJ traits are most common amongst the poker playing population.
thanks for the feedback!
Obv the result isnt binary, just (in theory) demonstrates tendencies towards a certain type of behavior. The accuracy relies heavily on how accurate the person's image is of him/herself, and whether the answers reflect how the person actually is and not what he/she would want to be.
INTJ
While it's not binary in that if you're P you're not J, it's also not cardinal or part of a spectrum. There's no true measure of your perceptiveness versus your judgement-ality. And you can be both perceptive and judgey at the same time or extroverted and introverted - say for instance you're out with friends but in you're own little clique. You're being out going and having fun with people you know, but can be super awkward and private standing next to someone waiting to order a drink. "I'm shy and private but once you get to know me, I can be the life of the party."
As I recall I was ENTP last time I took it. P>J in all cases.
ENTP what's j?
was an INTP last time I took the Mehyers-Briggs
Y'all need to take the test I posted, it's fantastic
INFP been so for the last iunno 8 years
AAAA
ENFP apparently
Did it say if any of you have the personality of a lobster?
I was ENTP when I took this awhile back
hmm ENTP, was INTP 3 yrs ago.. wat
def more introverted imo
A lot of people misunderstand was extrovert and introvert mean. Just because someone's the loud funny guy of the group doesn't necessarily mean he's an extrovert. An extrovert enjoys being in the company of others, even if they don't say a word the entire time. If being around others takes a lot out of you, even If you're the guy with the loud voice and all the stories, then you're probably an introvert.
yea i think you're right. A few of the questions are directly related to that, and i think i answered them differently last time. Looking at the definitions I actually don't even fit in any of these categories lollll. Alien imo
Extroversion
Extroversion is "the act, state, or habit of being predominantly concerned with and obtaining gratification from what is outside the self".[3] Extroverts tend to enjoy human interactions and to be enthusiastic, talkative, assertive, and gregarious. They take pleasure in activities that involve large social gatherings, such as parties, community activities, public demonstrations, and business or political groups. Politics, teaching, sales, managing and brokering are fields that favor extroversion. An extroverted person is likely to enjoy time spent with people and find less reward in time spent alone. They tend to be energized when around other people, and they are more prone to boredom when they are by themselves.
Introversion
Introversion is "the state of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested in one's own mental life".[3] Some popular writers have characterized introverts as people whose energy tends to expand through reflection and dwindle during interaction.[4] This is similar to Jung's view, although he focused on psychic energy rather than physical energy. Few modern conceptions make this distinction.
The common modern perception is that introverts tend to be more reserved and less outspoken in groups. They often take pleasure in solitary activities such as reading, writing, using computers, hiking and fishing. The archetypal artist, writer, sculptor, engineer, composer, and inventor are all highly introverted. An introvert is likely to enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people, though he or she may enjoy interactions with close friends. Trust is usually an issue of significance: a virtue of utmost importance to an introvert choosing a worthy companion. They prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time and like to observe situations before they participate, especially observed in developing children and adolescents.[5] They are more analytical before speaking.[6] Introverts are easily overwhelmed by too much stimulation from social gatherings and engagement, introversion having even been defined by some in terms of a preference for a quiet, more minimally stimulating environment.[7]
Introversion is not seen as being identical to shy or to being a social outcast. Introverts prefer solitary activities over social ones, whereas shy people (who may be extroverts at heart) avoid social encounters out of fear,[8] and the social outcast has little choice in the matter of his or her solitude.
I identify with both to the extreme depending in my mood.
And there's the problem with trying to categorize human behavior. Choosing one OR the other neglects the shades of gray that everyone inevitably falls in between the two ends of the spectrum.
Psychologists are aware of this, but they're also aware that it's harder to come up with more nuanced tests they can just throw at people so here we are, with a fairly popular personality test that tries to lump everyone into one of 16 different categories based on only 4 factors.
It's not a bad early crack at personality categorization I suppose, but I imagine psychologists of the future will laugh at the simplicity of this approach.
On top of that, it's fundamentally difficult to make accurate assumptions about what comprises a personality. People guess at what might help illuminate some essential truth about people and their interactions with themselves and world and check that it's intuitively true but the difficulty in testing for and demonstrating these assumptions true is very high.
The physical sciences are charmed in that they can make physical models to run trials through, but how do you make a scale model of a person and their personality?
Yeah there's a reason psychology (especially personality theory) is considered a 'soft' science. Still, I think it's incredibly important we do our best to figure out what makes us tick, it's just such a daunting task when faced with something as complicated as the human brain. We don't (yet) have the luxury of studying a lot of things in isolation, but advances in physiological psych are getting us closer, incrementally.
Sort of related, my sister has ocpd and is taking part in a study of brain activity by some university. They're scanning her brain whilst putting her in an agitated state through questioning her about her issues to see if they can find any physical differences between someone with ocd and someon, well, normal, for want of a better description.
sister eh? pics? I don't care if she insists you take 100 while clapping 4 times between each. It's for science.
I did the personality test and it told me to fuck off before calling me a cunt.
I think that was just dozer. He's got inside your head.
take the test i posted. myers briggs is old news, and im pretty sure the one i posted has statistical significance of accuracy
god damnit wuf stop trying to get match.com affiliate money from us
everyone so far except fer supa and bonga, who are "S" and "U" respectively, are "N" (favoring theoretical vs concrete/practical knowledge)
wtf is match.com?
oh i see, the test is on a dating site
which is funny because my first guess would be the reason the site uses it is because it's an actual accurate personality test
when i took myers briggs i scored for four different types before i stopped paying attention to it. when i took the helen fischer one, it was spot on
As much as I agree with the criticisms of this test, the following sums me up pretty dam well
Portrait of an ENTP
Forer effect, though.
Here are my results which are quite accurate.
Primary: Director/testosterone
Secondary: Builder/Serotonin
"You are an independent thinker who builds theories and approaches problems with an analytical, exacting, systematic and resourceful mind. And with your persistence, logic and determination, you tend to find innovative solutions to complex problems. You are particularly good with technical problems, those of mechanics, engineering, math, medicine, accounting, music or other "rule based" systems.
Although you enjoy being part of a stable, secure social network, you easily spend time alone, pursuing your own projects and goals at your own speed, according to your own rules. You can focus your attention to the exclusion of all around you. And you have a deep sense of autonomy.
You are a private person; you contain your emotions. You are also calm, efficient, quick to make decisions and remarkably self-disciplined. Yet you have a traditional, even sentimental streak. Family is important to you and you can be very protective of those you love."
I took your test as well wuf
I am also a Primary Director/Secondary Builder
The thing for me about that test is of the four different types: explorer, builder, negotiator, and director; I am easily primary negotiator secondary director. No other combination makes nearly as much sense, not even primary director secondary negotiator. The main reason I think it's probably quite legit is I can't identify that well with any options other than what I actually scored for
Test is rly cool and seems better than the myers briggs one.
I got Director/Explorer
Director/Builder
Negotiator/Director like wuffy.
Looking through the different categories I expect to be explorer director. Will take later and see how well I know myself.
Yup, primary explorer secondary director, but scored really high, only 3 less than secondary and 4 less than primary, on director.
Director/Builder...
director/explorer
What was also kinda interesting is that from reading the info about each category, I knew straight away I would be an explorer/director and also that my gf would be an explorer/negotiator. We both took the test and waddayaknow.
But also, these two personality types will be naturally attracted to each other. Explorers are a best match for explorers and directors are a best match for negotiators.
The test is legit, yo. I learned stuff about why I am the way I am simply by scoring as a negotiator(estrogen)/director(testosterone). That's generally not what men are, but I've always been able to connect very well with women and understand feminine things quiet easily, yet also have the normal masculine characteristics
Can i derail?
What is the point of personality tests exactly? Is the veracity of this test verified to a point where it can provide meaningful data?
Ive always just assumed that all these tests are bullshit, and id like to be enlightened why so many rational people are into them (or so the test says)
I tried to use the fact that I'm an explorer to explain to my gf why I get bored around the house on the weekends and fuck off to do my own thing quite often. It didn't Change the fact that it pisses her off but at least now I can say I can't help it.
INFP yo, like Homer, van Gogh & JK Rowlings
My work gives them to all employees to help know how it may possibly be best to deal with some employees. And to make sure they're in the positions best suited for them.
One example is there was a project manager who's test strongly suggested he'd be better placed as a sales guy. The bosses approached him and asked him if he'd like to try out the position. It was something he had never considered before as he had just always thought of himself as a manager. He tried out the position and has never looked back, much happier in his job now than he was before.
Finally took the test. Had great difficulty answering about 3/4ths of the questions, but I think the test has some merit through its redundancy of questions, so it doesn't matter if many of them are impossible to answer.
Got INFJ. It's a pretty accurate description of me, a bit better than any of the others I've read. I've definitely gotten sick by internalizing stress and apparently only about 1% of the population is INFJ
I bet there's a ton of IN's in poker. I'm another INTJ the mastermind lol.
Builder/director on chemistry.com. Sounds about right.
I was INTP every time I've taken one of these and I suspect nothing has changed.
I told you so.
INTP
Introvert(33%) iNtuitive(50%) Thinking(50%) Perceiving(22)%
You have moderate preference of Introversion over Extraversion (33%)
You have moderate preference of Intuition over Sensing (50%)
You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (50%)
You have slight preference of Perceiving over Judging (22%)
I have a feeling some of my strong tendencies have mildened a bit, though.
How many people have told me "you're so indecisive!"
Quote:
A major concern for INTPs is the haunting sense of impending failure. They spend considerable time second-guessing themselves. The open-endedness (from Perceiving) conjoined with the need for competence (NT) is expressed in a sense that one's conclusion may well be met by an equally plausible alternative solution, and that, after all, one may very well have overlooked some critical bit of data. An INTP arguing a point may very well be trying to convince himself as much as his opposition. In this way INTPs are markedly different from INTJs, who are much more confident in their competence and willing to act on their convictions.
omg so sick. I was explaining this to my wife just yesterday. I go deeeeeep into my mental resources to figure out how and why something functions the way it does. Once I've done that I'm pretty much done with it, and doing shit with this knowledge isn't all that interesting to me. It means often projects get left uncompleted - it's the knowledge that I can complete the task if i really need to that's important to me, not actually completing it.
Quote:
Mathematics is a system where many INTPs love to play, similarly languages, computer systems--potentially any complex system. INTPs thrive on systems. Understanding, exploring, mastering, and manipulating systems can overtake the INTP's conscious thought. This fascination for logical wholes and their inner workings is often expressed in a detachment from the environment, a concentration where time is forgotten and extraneous stimuli are held at bay. Accomplishing a task or goal with this knowledge is secondary.
Interesting you got all that, mine just said I'm a condescending prick who isn't funny.
Didn't need to read your test results to tell you that!
Does there exist a better way to describe me?
They know things intuitively, without being able to pinpoint why, and without detailed knowledge of the subject at hand. They are usually right, and they usually know it. Consequently, INFJs put a tremendous amount of faith into their instincts and intuitions
is that old?
Can I have that ten minutes back please?
And to think I was actually interested in your results
