techy network question

I have my own office, but I'm on the same network as everyone else. Randomly, at least once per day and for anywhere between 10 mins and 2 hrs, the internet dies in my office, but still works throughout the rest of the building. If I take my laptop into the office next to mine it and jack it in, it works fine, as it does throughout the rest of the office. Our techy guys can't figure it out. It's not related to the behavior of anyone else, happens at completely random times both when others are in the building and when I'm the only one here. It's driving me insane. Any ideas?

Also I can't help at all but if it was me, the next thing I'd do after testing your computer in another office during one of the downtime periods, is trying to test a different computer in your office during the downtime period, to see if your computer is part of the mysterious problem or totally separate from it.

If that hasn't been done by your tech guys already before them deciding they're stumped they kinda fucking suck though.

If another computer exhibits the same problem, then the PC is not the problem. I assume you've already replaced network cables... thus the next steps...

If the problem occurs at the same time of day roughly each day, something is causing it... you need to look for a system or device that is on only during that time (air handler, light fixture, network printer, etc...) something is interfering.

If the problem occurs randomly, try a different switch port on the network switch, or better yet, a different network switch... something may be overheating or failing.

Lastly, get better tech guys.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

The jack or wiring to specifically your office is probably at fault. No idea how, but if you walked through how the internet signal moves from the server to your computer, you might find something out of whack.

is there some sort of nanny software on the network which shuts you down each time you access dodgy sites . Have you tried doing a traceroute in the "downtime" to see where the blcokage is. i.e can you see your router/switch, your isp etc.
doesn't twindows connectivity diagnosis software tell you how far away the connection problem is . could be helpfull in immediate office distances.

Have you tried plugging in another computer at your station?

If so, and that one didn't work either, Have your tech guys actually tested the line. They should have brought in a small handheld device that plugs directly to the line. If they haven't done that then they suck so make them do it.

Have you tried plugging in a Mac into your station?

If the line is fine, ask them if they could swap you with another port on the switch's VLAN, basically swap where you and your neighbor are plugged in at on the switch. If the problem migrates to your neighbor stop caring.

Been a sparky for 17 yrs and I think I've touch network cables like twice. Plus I make way more scratch than those poor fools.

I got a buddy who weaseled his way into an IT grunt position at my last company with no experience. Total blue collar guy at heart but he's smart enough to pick up enough tech stuff to setup compuboxes and clean viruses so got the gig. Money is meh/ok but he hates it cuz he's just not in the right field, spends his whole day baked as fuck, waiting to get canned so he'll be forced to become a millwright or something he's better suited for.

I had a bunch of renos done on my place and the electrician we hired took it upon himself to try and wire up the network jack from the cable I'd run to the sockets he installed. He used the f'n phone jack I had laying around instead and I had to re-do the f'n thing myself :x
