Where did Texas Hold Em originate?

The origins of Texas Hold Em in an article in LIFE magazine from 1968.

LOL the pro uses the word "niggardly" to describe his intended style of play.

for the uninitiated, it's a synonym for stingy. it's gone into disuse, for obvious reasons.

Important to note that niggardly has no etymological relation to nigger. Its fall into disuse is understandable though as Penney said.

What surprises me is that this article is from 1968. I though Texas Hold Em dated back to the 1900's.
