Just been watching footage of the explosions, I can't believe nobody has died, it looked like it took out a bunch of people.
hmmmm, 3 stated as dead now, got a feeling that will grow.
awful....
reading 2 dead, and a lot of the injured had limbs ripped off :(
And on a day that would have been remembered as the achievement of a lifetime for many of those people.
I'm disgusted.
Apparently there were ball-bearings on the floor afterwards, which explains the limbs.
Welp.
fuck.
Nope, I want to joke, but I cant.
Throwing up
Looking at the images, ie the big explosion next to a crowd of people, it's a miracle only 3 have died. I can't quite figure out how.
That's because the perpetrators are untalented losers, good for nothing in life not even cowardly killing other people. Wishing the rest of their miserable existence to be a long slow agonizing death in a cage.
Thoughts to the victims and their families. Truly a sad day.
I read that the first suspect they had in custody was a Saudi man that someone else out there tackled because he was near the blast and thought he was acting "suspiciously". I'd be acting pretty sketchy too if I was a brown guy that happened to be near a bomb that just went off, "Oh fuck me, this is not gonna look good..."
Time for the government to take away more of our freedoms, yippie.
In fact, I bet it was an inside job precisely aimed at making an excuse to take away more of our freedoms, yippie.
Actually I should edit that to say "Time for Americans to beg the U.S. government to pretty please take away more of our freedoms, yippie!"
Oh oh oh! I think if the government had cameras everywhere, we would be able to stop crime more effectively? Dont you guys think?
I want to vote for the Safety Pics Act!
Fitness events need to be banned, should henceforth be cheeseburger eating contests. if Jesus wanted you to run why would he have invented drivethroughs, stop pissing him off
Jogging doesn't kill people, bombs kill people, who jog.
too soon?
No, they kill people who watch people who jog. Another proof that jogging is good for your health!
Nah unlike most libertarians I believe pretty much all the bad shit the government does to us is welcomed with open arms by the public. It's one thing to criticize people for having ill-advised views, its another to say that they shouldn't be allowed to have those views.
The horror. The terrorists are doing what they want. Condolences to relatives of the dead
Who are "the terrorists"?
Bearded people.
Be content with your lot; one cannot be first in everything.
Aesop
Joggers should be allowed to carry concealed bombs.
Spoon is right :)

I hate that we live in such a litigious society, but I sincerely hope suit is brought against the airline and the people responsible for this abhorrent decision are terminated.
this is a bit inappropriate, but slightly on topic, so whatever..

Boost that story makes my head hurt cause its obviously incredibly wrong what happened to them but I can't help but think that if I were an Arab-American I'd go the extra mile to make sure no one feels uncomfortable on an airplane with me. Like, I'd forgo the turban that day and avoid praying loudly in Arabic during take off, just to be a gentleman.
Do we have a right to be scared and suspicious? Haven't the government/media/legal system cultivated and thrived upon our fear? Even if it is based on ignorance.
There's been like 12-18h hours were the word spread all across the internet (and contaminated the traditional press) that this Sunil Tripathi student who disappeared from Brown uni a month ago was one of the bombers with what seemed a high degree of certainty.
Turns out this was completely wrong. Lucky for him, the kid didn't come across some law abiding vigilante and his faithful gun during this time... Before that, a few other persons were singled out as prime suspects.
The day Reddit, Twitter or Facebook are going to get somebody wrongly killed is onto us. It's pretty much exactly the digital version of the good old mobs that were lynching people or burning witches... progress? You bet. Before Boston, it was just the idiotic conspiracy theories about pretty much everything, or words put in the mouth of people who never pronounced them, but now lives are at stake...
I thought these articles to be of some interest:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...-crowdsourcing
http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...f71_story.html
I think we need to be careful and not quick to judgement on social media, labeling it a digital lynch mob. The speed with which people can offer up tips and consume updates is a good thing for solving crimes.
What is bad is when this is combined with a vigilante mentality. Doling out "justice" before a fair trial has been held has always been wrong. So that's what we need to work on. Assisting investigators is clearly not inherently wrong.
In addition, it would seem that law enforcement is probably behind the curve in terms of communicating updates back to the public which is essentially being used as crowd sourced investigators. If the crowd isn't told definitively by an authority that they're way cold, then they're gonna keep on digging the wrong hole.
On another mass tragedy issue... I really wish leaders would stop pandering to the base emotions and actually lead. Vigilantism needs to be denounced before it happens, not as a footnote after it happens. Revenge should not be the goal, healing should be. Lastly, prevention and victory are probably best served by facilitating domestic changes and not letting fear smother our preferred way of life-- not by bombing another brown country.
Best boost post ever?
Best boost post ever.
I felt this was a rather well written and thought out article regarding the way tragedies like this are dealt with:

US Justice Dept. has sent a get well soon card with a free vacation to Gitmo that includes Spa Treatment.
Citizens aren't allowed into Gitmo.
Pretty good article here I thought:

edit: and one thing to add: those a*holes who took, released, published, sold or shared gruesome pictures of the injured/dead people did at least as much work as the terrorists towards their goals (not even talking about the lack of respect for the victims). If I was a terrorist, that is exactly what I would want people to do. Facing terrorism, the right thing to do is exactly the opposite of whatever it is they want us to do.

I do kind of understand why someone would do this, but it really bothers me.
took me waaaaaay too long to figure out what they were trying to do with the chalk
I don't get it. poo.S.A?

It's the bloodstain of the dead bomber.
