Break Free of the Matrix
A Deal With the Devil
Agent Smith: We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation in bringing a known terrorist to justice.
Neo: Yeah. Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I may have a better one. How about, I give you the finger... and you give me my phone call.
Who Will You Call?
Here's the reality of the situation if you're the average micro stakes or small stakes no-limit hold'em player in today's games: You're pretty much fucked between a rock and a hard place.
The games get harder each year, and the edges get smaller and smaller. You've had to improve as a player just to maintain the same win-rate on almost a monthly basis, so how in the hell are you supposed to be able to have time to improve enough to move up through the stakes without centering your whole life around poker?
What's Necessary to Survive
If you're going to make it through all of the changes that are happening right now in the poker world, then you're going to have to change your perspective on poker. You're like Neo before he took the red pill.
- Tactics: Neo piddling around on his computer inside of the Matrix trying to figure out what was going on.
- Strategy: Morpheus understanding what needs to happen to gain the advantage from outside of the Matrix.
The tactics that have worked in the past have gotten less and less effective, and what's needed now is a focus on strategy instead.
Morpheus: I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.
The Choice
I am offering you an opportunity to stop thinking about poker the way you do and to break free and start thinking about it from a higher level to give yourself more of the big picture. You can only get so far thinking tactically, and the worst part is that you believe you are studying poker strategy. In reality, you probably haven't even scratched the surface.
So if you want to see how far the rabbit hole goes, then that's exactly what we're going to do.

so....where´s the red pill?

The Fundamental Problem
"The tactician must know what to do whenever something needs doing; the strategist must know what to do when nothing needs doing." -Savielly Tartakower
You Are Stuck
Let's face it. If you're reading this, then you're most likely stuck in poker. You can't seem to get ahead no matter how much effort you put into the game. The games are getting tougher faster than you can keep up. The rake is rising, rakeback is disappearing, and rewards are getting smaller every year.
The solution to this isn't to work harder: It's to work smarter. The transition from being a tactical player to being a strategic player is the key.
The New Breed of Grinder
FlopTurnRiver used to be known for having some of the best groups of grinders around. Players came together to help pull each other up through the ranks. Many of those people are still playing professionally today around the world, and others used the money they earned to transition into other businesses like buying restaurant franchises.
If you're tired of being stuck without making any progress after months or years of trying to deal with the shitty state of the current poker environment, then you're going to need to make a change. That change is to understand the weakness of how you approach poker and to learn a new perspective on the game.
