I love them :)
I'd rather play 4-6 people any time.
#1 The table plays MUCH faster.
#2 You can play more starting hands.
fnord and mike: what's the quality of the players at these tables compared to the full tables of 10?
I felt it was about the same. Actually a bit looser because its "shorter" handed some people will play lower grouped hands, and vaule hands like top two pair against a straight/flush draw more..
thats great, pp puts up 6 player tables after I cash out, I've been wanting that for a while. Anyway I think for an aggressive player, its great. I saw one player completely dominate a table, up to about 130 in less than an hour, then she couldn't let go of hands and lost it. All she needed was the ability to lay down a hand and shed be raking in the cash..
See it all the time. Super-aggressive on a rush throwing a party when they cool down... Just tighen up and hope you win that lottery. Although, there is the rare super-aggresive capable of laying down a hand. Tough nuts to crack!Quote:

The same, minus the rocks. You just can't sit around waiting for a group 1 or 2 hand or a pocket pair with implied odds on a set. Multi-table rocks and shortstops were really becoming a drag on the 10 player tables.Quote:

Ha.. I've seen fnord Playing stud, i almost sat down there with him for the hell of it until I realzed i didn't know how to play stud :D
I play a home game every other week or so, so I figured I should learn a second game. Right now I'm up over $100 at the .50/1 tables and I'm certain I'll leaving lots of profit on the table. So far, I think skilled Stud play is more profitable than Limit HE and less profitable than NL HE. It's nice taking a break from the tough $10 - $20+ decisions you need to make when playing NL HE.
If you'd like I can post my current game plan to the private board, as well as some comments on how Stud maps to HE.
Fnord, i'd love to see your game plan for stud..

Both good points. On the other hand you get more "free"(i.e. non-blind) opening cards playing a full table. It also seems that profitable play is a little more straightforward on a full table as you have to normally play a little looser/less quality starting cards on a short-handed table and bluff/steal blinds more.
In any case, I'm more comfortable now on a full, but I need to try to improve my short-handed game, if nothing else for home tournaments and SNG's where it obviousy becomes a short-handed game very quickly.
i tried a 6 player table saturday night, and lost my stack, but not because of the table, because i was a dumbass. :oops:
after an hour of maintaining my $25 stack with sh*t cards (which was no small feat!), i tilted and went all in on pocket 88 - i'm an idiot.
so, there is now Fishstick Rule #1: if you get crap cards for 45 minutes with nothing really playable - end the session. losing doesn't make me tilt, but an hour of rags will make me do something stupid.
back to the topic - i think i would actually like the 6 player tables as i feel comfortable in the 2-5 player range (at least in tourneys). i think fnord's right - not a good place for a rock with the blinds coming around so often. also, you can play more hands.
interestingly, i don't seem to have too many problems short handed - i get into trouble in the 7 - 5 player range (in tourney's).Quote:

Played 4 handed last Saturday in the work game and cleaned up. Never got to play a premium pocket pair although I caught Big Slick a couple times (and lost an all-in with AKs.) Pre-flop in Hold'em is overrated. I'll take a great flop over a great hand any day.

Down to heads up in a 4 player tourney, payout is 5/15. I've caught up to almost even with the tall stack (tight/aggressive but folds too easily) I'm in the BB with like 1/8 - 1/10th of my stack in already. I got Q8s, button raises to 2x BB, I call. Flop comes rag - 8 - 8. Check check; rag on the turn check, check; rag on the river (decision time) check, all-in, call! Big slick goes down on a needless buy attempt.

i had my share of bad beats and such on saturday as well (http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=255) which didn't help my mood. regarding my being a dumbass: it really, really, really gets to me to sit at table and watch loose, play anything, call anything play happening, and not having any kind of hand to do something about it.
i'm learning, it's a journey... :lol: discipline grasshopper... :lol:
on your tourney play this weekend: nice! i probably would have bet the flop or turn, which might have been too aggressive. i agree with a good flop - i've had too many AA, KK, QQ fall apart from a bad flop!
not a bad weekend for myself either - i won an $11 sit n go on friday, and ended making $45 over the whole weekend.
Too many chips were in pot, the blinds were too big and he was too timid to try to suck him in. Toughest part was the bet/check decision on the river. I figured if I waited him out he was bound to catch something or make a move. Worst case I take down the pot anyway. Heads up with huge blinds, I really wasn't too worried about sucking out with my trip 8s and a Queen kicker.Quote:
