Jesus, where is this, Party Poker? Horrid calling by him. Anyway, if the flop was rags and you had a flush draw, then it would make more sense to lead out like that. After his preflop raise, its probably not smart since you should assume he probably has an A or a K, making him the favorite and you taking away your own pot odds. But if he checked the flop, I'd definitely bet the turn.
-
I hear what you're saying about putting him on at least an A or K, but i'm used to people raising pre-flop with things like QJo at Party/Empire, so i thought i'd rep the A or K and see what happened. I wasn't concerned after he just called the flop bet, but i was after he called the turn bet. luckily, salvation came on the river. I think I've decided that this isn't a good thing to do in general because I could've easily wasted a lot of money. sometimes, i just can't help myself though.

Yeah, I'd save it for bigger pots, like ones that were raised big preflop. If they come rags and you have two overs and a flush draw, then it may be a great move.

Pre-flop: Call mainly for image. Fold the flop with anything short of a flush draw or 2 pair.
Flop: Standard.
Turn: Check and call his likely $3 bet or under-bet and hope he thinks he's slow playing his big pair. Fold if you don't get at least 3 to 1 on your call. Unless he's a total tool, not many hands call that flop and fold the turn.
River: Check is bad as I would expect a big pair to check behind. So a value bet is clearly the better play. Not re-raising him all-in with the 2nd nut (with a very freak nut) is horrible.
