Heads up decision - call or fold?

Heads up hand during live home game this weekend. I have about 65% - 35% chip lead.
I'm on the button and the big blind (strange home rules).
Blinds: 50 / 100


Hole cards: Q:spade: 5:spade:

PF: Opponent raises to 300, I call (600 pot)


Flop: J:spade: 3:spade: 6:diamond:


Opponent: ALL IN

My read:
Opponent (who, IMO, is a tight-ish but aggressive player) has a pair of jacks with possibly an outside chance for higher flush draw (worst case). Losing would place my opponent in a commanding chip lead.
If my read is correct, I have 12 outs or worst case: none.


What would you do? Call or fold?

No, no point calling as a dog when you've got a read on your opponent. You can get the best of him in other hands going in as the favorite.

I agree with Rilla. He can have also to spades with Ax or Kx.

I would fold and wait I have something stronger.

One missing piece of information: How big is the 600 chip pot in relation to your stacks?

Unless the pot is large relative to your stacks, I think you have to fold. I wouldn't be worried about the higher flush as much as I would be worried that my outs to the Q are dirty (e.g., he holds QJ, AA, or KK). I'd discount my outs to 10.5 or 11 based on that possibility, not enough to call, really.

If you will still hold a commanding chip lead after folding, I think the correct play is to fold here.

I agree, the missing part of the equation is what % 600 chips represents, but I'd have a hard time calling if you could fold and still be ahead or close to 50/50. If the best case(assuming it's not a total bluff) is a coin flip, lay it down.

Good point koolmoe. No the pot wasn't excessivly big compared to our stacks (~10% of all chips in play, I think)

I was thinking about this hand most of the day yesterday and I had come to the conclusion that I should have called, oh yeah, and I'm a pussy :) .
I am surprised to see I made, what would appear, the right decision.

After thinking about it for about a minute (seemed like longer), I laid it down thinking exactly what you guys have said: "Call when I'm going in as favourite".

The other big factor was that this home game was winner takes all, so even though I wouldn't have lost there and then if things hadn't gone my way, I would have been seriously crippled and possibly gone home with nothing.

Anyway, soon after we had a small break and came to an agreement to split the winnings 50/50 - so although I didn't win outright, the missus was happy coz I came home with some cash (£35 or ~$70). :D

So I'm still a pussy but a pussy with profit! :P

Isn't that the best kind? ;)

Anyhow, I think the trap that a lot of players fall into early on (myself included) is wondering whether or not they should call in a given situation. I have to remind myself constantly that, if I wouldn't call every time this situation comes up, I shouldn't call now.

One of these days it'll stick, eh?
