I think it's about time we added a forum to cover politics, article discussion and fist-fighting!
And whatever else you think needs a new forum.

But isn't that exactly what the community forum is for? Non-poker miscellany. I worry that maybe expanding and categorizing all of the non-poker discussion will move the site in a direction that was not its original intent and you'll get the casual FTR lurker suddenly signing up because they want to have non-poker discussions. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems that theres already enough non poker things going on.
Crap, I'm getting the shakes. It's the end of my work day. Must. Play. and think about. Poker.
Yah, you're right. You're crazy. :P
I just saw that Pres Bush thread and someone said to just ignore their post and close the thread, they just had to say something. Why not open a forum where they know they're supposed to say something?

I agree with Saucy here, 'rilla.
A forum of our size needs to stay focused. We are a community, but we are a poker community. Splintering it into other miscellany will kill the forum. I know this from personal experience.
I was an admin on a Counter-Strike/gaming forum (the source of the "Xianti Unleashed" avatar you found). After a year of catering to the members' wishes for non-gaming forums (politics, music, art, religion, movies, etc.), it imploded on itself. People stopped coming because there was just too much and the focus of the forum became diluted. New visitors didn't know where to start... and didn't return. The admins eventually decided to scrap all the non-gaming forums and start over.
I'm not going to let that happen here.
Anyone's free to start any number of non-poker topics in FTR Community. It's our lounge. Go to the bar, fix yourself a cocktail and chill. I hear Humphy's trying out a new brownie recipe.
And who says having the forum implode on itself is such a bad thing? Who are you to jump to that conclusion!? I have a lot of very close and imploded friends who are still cool guys. Don't discriminate!

Rilla, if you are looking for political forums, try the following links:
Neo conservative Republican forum: www.freerepublic.com
Liberal Democrat forum: www.democraticunderground.com
Slightly less neo conservative republican forum www.libertypost.org
Free wheelin libertarian free speech forum www.libertyforum.org
When I say "free speech" forum, I mean it here. It is anything goes there and can you can often find posts by anti-semites, skin heads, etc. Don't say I didn't warn you.
