Fold AQs to a raise preflop? Generally I reraise to see where I stand. I notice that you fold AQ quite a few times in this tourney. What's your mentality with that hand when it's dealt to you?

Basically the question is how do you get the dealer to keep giving you Kings and Aces?
AQ I woud just rather not play unless I am the one raising. However, I will play it if I am in need of chips or blind stealing.
Second hand. The guy couldnt have made it more obvious as his betting pattern went bonko.

Whats your thought process on the all in bet? I think most people here would attempt a checkraise (myself included), is it trying to get a call from AK/99? Not many callable hands are behind you here.
Note: Not trying to criticise at all, as Im sure your a much better player than me, just trying to gain an understanding in to some of the hands I would have played differently.
Oh, and congrats.
I will answer some your questions tomorow during the day when I am not playing, quick thought yes a few of those were misplayed.
thanks aces.Quote:

Wow... I feel like I just finished a really awesome book. Good plot, cool twists, interesting characters, and a wicked finish. Congrats ilikeaces, and thanks for posting the HH.
I definately got some neat insights from reading through that. One question I have in particular. After you took out doublmeup1 with QJo, he said:
doublmeup1: QJ wtf was that
I was expecting after that to read:
ilikeaces: shh.... I'm trying to count your chips
But it was nowhere to be found... Do you not like this move? :) :)
I wet myself when I read this. :lol:Quote:

Thanks again. It was nice showing this to my wife and saying "See? See? This could be me!!!". Yeah......
Darkwing
the play in that pocket 8s hand is unbelievable.. to trust your read like that, wow.
He could feasibly have had pocket aces through jacks and just protected his hand on the flop.
Would you have made the same move if the raise on the flop would have put you all in? Would you have been more cautious in that situation, knowing if you were wrong you'd be out.
well done btw &thanks for sharing
I can't speak for ilikeaces but I don't think he is avoiding a coin flip. I think hes avoiding being dominated.Quote:

I thought I was making the read of my life turned out to be the worst play of my life.
Hand 2)
So low and chips that I was thinking I was in need of making this call. Very well could of ended my tourney.
Hand 3)
What hand do you expect to be ahead of here if I call?
Hand 4) 10K to call and I am getting the right price. I was thinking I would be using the gap concept and either be up vs AK which I would be 2:1 dog or up vs 10s or lower pair and be a flip. Once I had already raised it I had to call.
Hand 5)
I bet that out by accident, as you can see I went back to 3BB raises after that.
Hand 6)
I simply did not want to see a turn as 1010 is still very vulnerable. I live by the mentality the less hands you have to showdown the better. You win every hand you dont show down.
That is a surprising fold with the AJ (in hand 3 as you refer to it) in the BB against the SB's 4.5xBB raise.
You ask what hand you can expect to be ahead of, and I'd argue almost anyone he'd hold (besides coinflips against small pairs). People don't overbet with monsters from the SB in blind wars.
I think this is a case where you're much more likely to dominate their hand than be dominated. I'm not sure if I'd just call or if I'd raise here, but I'd certainly be playing it every time, expecting to be ahead here (and very likely against a weaker ace).
He had a 9k stack and if I was gonna play it was gonna be a reraise for his whole stack... not worth the risk to me.Quote:

From my experience, the size of his raise, and his position, by far the two most likely hands he has is a small pocket pair (6s or under) or a weak ace, since he's showing a lot of weakness by not raising a standard 3xBB, which he clearly would with every hand that has you beat (AA-JJ, AK, and AQ) against a random hand, as he'd want a call with these clearly.
Chances are even if he has a small pocket pair, he'd fold it out of fear that you had a higher pair, with all the strength you'd be showing by coming over the top of him. Seems like free money out there to me.
But hey, I'm not arguing with your results in this tourney. Very nice win.
:O
Im astonished... Congratulations!
and whew wee you sure do know what your talking about huh michael... and i thought i was starting to get decent at this poker... well atleast now i know i have a lot more to learn :o
I didnt feel like I was in a postion I needed to risk most my stack with a marginal hand like AJQuote:

IMO, the AJ hand was just a smart, smart decision. If he'd reraised, that would have been half of his stack gone if he lost the showdown. There are much better spots to take down pots, especially as big chip leader. I would have felt very uneasy playing that hand. He flips AQ and you're left wondering why on earth you took the risk in such a great chip position.

A9o or 66 is the best hand I can possibly put him on (when compared to a random hand, clearly 66 would be better against what you have), and to be honest, I feel that's pushing it. I feel like A6o or 22/33 is the most likely hands he has.
The only reason I'd consider taking a flop is not because I'm worried of being beat, but really just to make sure you hit and/or to trap him. I'm really feeling there's such a good chance that if the flop comes Axx he'd give you his stack and you'd have him outkicked. If the flop is J high, you clearly have him as well, I just doubt he'd give you his stack (unless he's very aggressive). If you don't hit a pair you can just dump it if he bets.
The size of his raise, in a blind war, screams to me that he has a decent hand that he assumes beats your random BB hand, but its very flimsy and he'd rather just take your BB. A2o is more likely than AQ.
But really all this arguing over one not very significant hand is just for fun. I think it would've given you some extra chips had you played it more aggressively, but it clearly wasn't neccesary.
Don't hate me because Im beatiful!Quote:
