Is the coin there for scale or seasoning?

need to get rid of the trash and get more of the good stuff at some stage....
Rarely have patience to fish soft plastics but largemouth's can't stay off these Gary Yamamoto senko's. Might have to put the hard baits away for a while.
This little champ put up one of the best fights I've ever seen out of a fish less than 5 lbs.

9lb. chunk.
If it was a male I would have kept it since it was gut hooked so bad. But at this time of year and the size of her belly, figured I'd give her a chance to repopulate.

You guys know you can't eat the fish after having sex with it, right?
I haven't been killing too many trout recently. But, sometime it's appropriate to eat one... a few of us went for a walk in fiordland for a couple of days to a river that has zero fishing press and is probably fished only a few times a year (?) (Stafford Bay Route: South Westland, West Coast). I took my light spinning rod, a friend took way too much (value/weight) fly fishing gear. After a couple of cold hours on the water the morning after we got there we were thinking that maybe there were no trout in the river, then i caught a very feisty brown on a spinner (my friend hated that, cos it was a: not a fly, and b: he hadn't caught one yet) and we kept it to take it back to where our girlfriends were waiting in the hut next to the fire, joking that we were supposed to bring them some breakfast. Fish was obv tasty. Turned out there were also some very big fish in that water, also turned out that they were smarter than we were. I'm going back there with a fly rod sometime, and i'm gonna night fish for the 10lb-ers, then put back any that are dumb enough for me to catch them...

I went for a five day walk in the mountains a couple of weeks ago. Ended up camping next to the nevis river (Nevis River fishing-Nevis River trout fishing-nzfishing) one evening and watching trout, the fishing season there had closed already so I didn't have gear with. It's a brown trout fishery with a rule that you have to put back the fish over 40cm, so there are some nice fish swimming around. Here is the pool we camped next to. Nice spot - i'll probably head in there to fish next summer. Particularly interested in the tricky terrain in the lower gorge which is fished very infrequently cos - to quote the river description:
Description
The lower section below Nevis Crossing is through a largely inaccessible gorge - the domain of experienced kayakers who want an adreniline rush. There are good fish in this section, especially as the season progresses but it is only for those who want the challenge of fishing the most remote and challenging water.
Fish numbers and size
Good fish numbers in this section if you can get at them.
Access - Almost impossible"

Nice fish. I always have the most fun fishing new spots.
Got sucked in while at Gander Mountain over the weekend. Picked up a couple new reels and more lures than any sane person should own. Can't wait for the waters to warm up around here.

Caught these at Christmas time. Only fish caught. Spotted bass in the afternoon, and crappie and catfish caught after midnight and several beers.
These are nice sized fish but you can't tell cause I'm such a fatass.
cross-posts from my blog-op thread:
[march] late morning yesterday and my gf asked for fish for the bbq. And 'variety please'. I put some back, but kept enough and a few hours later (i caught the trout and perch, then a guy offered me some mullet in exchange for a perch so i got those too):

will be playing a lot of volume over the next ten days. It's a little like my nit plan. Except volume. Maybe I'll do some nit at the same time.
