Yeah, Americans often think Canada is wayyyyy colder than it actually it. It's true, there are some areas that are really cold in the winter. But some areas are also really warm. The town I live in averages 35°C days in the summer (off my own recollection, dunno if that's official).
Not saying boost is one of them, but I have actually come across Americans that are under the impression that Canada is constantly snowing. This seems to be less common, probably because the internet makes that kind of confusion less likely these days.
