I´m still stuck. I cashed out for 1.3k to go on vacation and pay bills and shit, BR hovers around 10k. I had a great time at the sea, visiting a friend of mine whilst there was a big festival. Parties every night, incredibly nice weather, beach volleyball and surfing contests. We were drunk all day and all night, were partying till the sunrise and I went swimming in the northern sea around 4am, which was nasty cold 9°C. Since things in gambling aren´t really going the way I want fortune let me hit the lady-jackpot. Yawn!

Poker goes up and down and I cant see any improvement. Idk whats wrong, but I cant get a grasp of all those new concepts I´m trying to implement. Maybe I should focus more on one limit, atm I´m playing NL100 and NL200 FR, NL100 6max, NL100 HU and NL/PL50 2-7 TD. Its just...6max tables are tough in the afternoon, while they become very soft later, full ring tables are soft in the afternoon and become a rockfest/shortstack party at night.


Today´s hand: Squeezing is fun. BTN was very active, openeing almost every button/CO but didnt like to play 3bt pot without a hand, SB is a sucky weak/passive type of guy, I haven´t done anything yet. I´m sure 3betting here with almost atc is profitable.

Today´s random thoughts:


Heads up:

I played two villians tonight, one whose button opener were 6x and another who opened for only 2x from the button. I realized how I tended to call the 2x raises lighter and the 6x raises tighter than I would vs std 3.5x opener. Tho it seems intuitive, it´s wrong. Why is that? What are the factors to consider, when forming our ranges for 3betting, calling and folding? Villians range for calling, folding equity, stack sizes, opponents postflop tendencies, latest history, our image and whatnot. I don´t line "pot odds" among the most important factors and thats why adjusting our subrange for calling is probably wrong. I always seem to have insights when the vodka is flooding, take it with a grain of salt.

Poker:

In position, versus aggro small blinds in BvB, rather call and float wider than 3betting lighter. Make sure to keep your 3betting range generally tight and polarized. Villain folds most of his range to a 3bet and calls usually pretty strong, given him being OOP. But, he will fire air on a lot of flops and fold to a raise/turnbet. Ask yourself, who is harder to play? a guy constantly 3betting or a guy calling wide IP vs your weak range? Bingo. Be aware when he starts 2 barreling more.

I´m stuck. Would be a great new headline. I´m running fine at 6max now but can´t get a hold of full ring and heads up tables. It´s all a mess. Red numbers in PT tilt me, I feel the urge to play any game I already plaed until the numbers are green.

Agree on #1, just wanted to hear other opinions. If he were known to bluff missed hearts/QT c/c might be best, but here I´d really prefer to b/f.

On #1, I don't think you should bet/fold here. There are too many hands that beat you: AJ/KJ/QJ/JT/J9/T8/99/33 and what do you do if villain pushes?
There are no better hand that will call you (except maybe really badly played KK/QQ)
I think that you're much better off hoping for villain to bluff you on the river. He might put on a FD that missed on the river.

Up to river, for me you represent: AA/KK/QQ/99/33/JJ/J9/FD/T8 and maybe AJ.

Damn it. Just got up and realized, that I didnt hit the submit button last night. My game continues to run like a rollercoaster. I´ve been on a sick hot run on 6max tables since I moved there and made 18 buy ins in 6k hand, am breaking even on 200NL FR over 60k but am a solid winner at 100NL FR over 100k+ since the beginning of this OP. Its weird, since I really can´t figure out whats wrong. The transition from 100NL to 200NL should cause such a large drop, particularly since todays 200NL regulars consist of like 35% guys with whom I played 100NL before. Guess I´m just running bad and have a serious tilt problem. See here:

#4 This hand gives me a headache. Villian is nittish 12/7 and he´s a true nit for life. I´ve played like 30k hands of 100NL FR with him and I´ve never seen him get out of line. La di da. I start getting comfortable with playing so many different games and I slowly get a feeling for shorthanded tables. Heads up kinda sucks, mostly due to mean coolers at the wrong time.

Yes, but what range does he call 3bets with? How much are you 3betting? It is hard to comment since HU has so many plays decided by metagame and flow.
This seems like a fold to me, despite the terrific odds his minraise is offering you. You can only feel good about hitting a 9 as you are probably only a little better than 50/50 with his range after hitting the str8, depending upon how many FD's you put in his range. The 3bet makes it that much more likely that he has an Ace in his FD too.
I would also think if he's trying to blast you off a pot he'd do it with a bigger raise. How'd he play the baby FD before? Push? Minraise?

Ppl fold mid pp´s very rarely to 3bets and I believe he´s raising a huge % of his range on this flop.

I finally won money again! I dont know how much I´m up exactly, but I´m slowly recovering my losses on FR tables and I run really good at 6max. I gave 1/2 6max games a shot and so far it´s all good. We´ll see how long before I start whining again and move down. BR broke $12k for the first time last night, according to my BRM plan it´s time for 2/4 soon, but I dont feel ready for that yet. Oh well, my wrist hurts worse than before. Went to the bike park yesterday, now that everything is fixed and new parts have arrived I was extremely trail horny. Right on my first descent I took the freeride line with loads of drops, hips and kickers all the way down the hill. I choose a nicely flowy line and came to that drop with about 2.5m height and as Im popping off over the edge I realize that Im way to fast, coming not even close to whats supposed to be the landing area. Anyway, the ground comes closer and I prepare to take a hard impact, as the terrain is quite flat there, my frontwheel lands right before a bump, stopping immediately, I go over the handle bar and find myself somwhere off track with a hurting chest and wrist and dirt in my mouth.

Hospital, xray, doc finds fractures in the left wrist and middle hand (they get your xrays nowadays right on their monitor, being able to zoom in and out, inverting colours and whatnot). Doc asks me to come back today at 930am, because she isnt sure. I´m sooooo fucking hung over today, yet I forced myself to get up early and talk to another doc. The nurse shows me a room and asks me to wait a couple of minutes for the chief physician. ONE FUCKING HOUR LATER the nurse wakes me up, since the doc is about to arrive. Second diagnosis says the arent any fractures, just a heavy contusion. Lucky me.

Yay. My goal for this month is to make $5k. In order to achieve that goal (and to get better as a player, now that everyone knows I´m a donk) I gotta work more on my game and put more time into HH review. I´m gonna focus on my 6max game, in the end getting better at 6max will improve my full ring game immensly, basically the money spots in FR are LP aggression, blinds and 3bet pots, all the things I gotta improve at 6max even more. I already put in two sessions today, 4k hands of 200NL FR and maybe 1.5k hands at 200NL 6max, I´m not sure if I should play a third session or not. In the meantime I´m gonna sum up the hands I put up for discussion in the SH forum. All these hands were possible spews or just bad play and most of the comments I got helped me tremendously, big up to everyone who took the time to look over my hands. if you've been busted 3betting light out of blinds, it's time to tighten up a little bit. In general, I don't like the 3b with A5 at all as a huge portion of his calling range are aces and pairs, making your hand dogshit and a leak. I'd much rather see you do this with SC's then A5. 89, 910 hit more flops and have some deception value. A5 is dominated too much when it hits and is worthless when you miss most of the time. I'd only 3b this hand if opp was loose pf, passive flop and folds to many cbets

Blame me, I reviewed a block of hands and gave him shit for folding too many hands on the button.

I can understand you could do this if you have a deep 3bet history with villain. You could do this once to trap other villains on the table in the future, but that's it. Calling even IP with this hand would just make you lose money otherwise.

Villian was limping a lot and I´ve raised his limps a whole lot before. He insta 3bet this time, which is usually a frustrated 89s/55-type of hand. I called and planned on bluff shoving any A/K/Qxx flop, being pretty sure he almost never hits a TP on those boards. Probably its still a spew tho.

Paying attention to the wrong spots. Thinking about the wrong hands.

XTR1k (9:19:08 PM): shoving gives us 40% equity vs {AK,AA,KK} and we bet 22 to win 52 which is almost 0ev

Hand 1: I like it!
Hand 2: As your hand is quite transparent. Most of the time I think we'll see a set/2pair here. Unless villain is watching TV at the same time or is a donk and was trying to push you out of the pot with a FD.
Hand 3: I play the same.
Hand 4: As played I also call. But it sucks as I think he has often a set or is trying to push you off the pot (if he's very aggro)

Thanks for the input jimmy, I agree with mostly. IIRC, villian in hand 2 was a total donk, ready to stack off here with any ace and FD.


I don´t know what´s going on, but I´ve been running pretty good in 6max games lately. Don´t praise the day, before the sun goes down, but I think talking to a lot of good players, studying Leggo videos and reading thru the web and cutting my tables down to 5 and having a time limit of max 2 hrs have improved my performance tremendously (sp?). Could be I´ve found the webs softest 1/2 games, could be I´m just running sick hot (no doubt that I am), but I can say with full confidence that I haven´t spewed incredibly bad or made really stupid plays for 15k hands now ( or at least I didn´t lose big pots without having really good reasons for what I did.). I´ve turned off my HUD, only taking a peek in really close situations to the pop up stats. My stats vary largely from one table to another, indicating, that I´m thinking at least a bit about things other than my cards and the location of the button. I´m kinda curious how much I will whine, complain and lose confidence again when this hot run is over and how I will react to not making a huge amount of money in a very short time when the tides turn.

Hand 4: Why do you c/c TURN? you're giving villain a free card if he has the Kh/Qh. Here I would 3bet to about $65.

I really don´t wanna play for stacks at this point. Villian represents a made low flush or some weird two pair, given that he´s not overly aggro its prolly more flushes than that. B/3b would put me in an awkward spot if he shoves over. I have good equity in this pot, but dont want to felt it yet.

I don't like giving free cards on these board and we have a good hand. Plus he might push a Kh if you raise and you still have equity against a flush ...

I see your point, let me go deeper into detail: Villian was the weak-tight nitfish, who a) is not very likely to chase the bare Qh and who doesnt raise the Kh anywhere and b) who is more worried about his cards than mine. This puts me in a spot, where a b/3b turns my hand into a bluff and as I said before, would you stack off if he 4bet shoves? I wouldnt. So b/c (some might even vote for c/c) doesnt ruin the value my hand has, gives me a good price to fill up vs his flush and I can profitably rep KhX/QhX on 4 flush rivers.

If villain is weak-tight then I agree here! If he 4bet shoves we cannot call the TURN. So b/c here is good. Now I don't think villain folds too many 4th flush RIVERs if he has a medium flush ...

I haven´t been updating my OP for a long time, so I guess it´s time to give a brief summary of whats been happening.

My BR is dwindling down to something between 9 and 10k. Like I said before, I´m forced to cash out frequently to pay for my living expenses and I fail at cutting down spending habits. Beside that I spend a lot of money on fixing and tuning my bike and will go on vacation to the french alps in august and rock the shit out of their trails. What really sucks is, that my boss messed up my holidays and I´m at work, when my buddies head off to france, so I´ve got to catch up with them one day later. It sucks, b/c there´s no flight avaible to Geneve, what would be only an hour away from our hotel, and the train takes like 12 hrs and won´t be avaible before sunday morning, what would make lose not one, but two days. So I´m prolly renting car and driving down to france on saturday night, what will sum up for something around 300EUR extra. Fuck gas prices.

Poker alone goes decently well, even though I dropped almost 12 BI consecutively at 1/2NL. The fact, that the last 30k hands of 6max went straight up and that I´m playing a lot of 200BB tables makes this less brutal than it might look like. I haven´t got to play a lot lately, I´ve got exams going on until 14th of July and spend most of my time in the library or working out/riding bikes and BMX. Operations research made me wanna cut myself and eventually the prof came up with a really shitty and unexpected test. I havent seen the results yet, fingers crossed, that my score is enough to get a C+ or better. I´ve got tech assessment and enterprise knowledge management left and then I´ll be back on my grind.

And I started playing golf. It´s just sick. I´ve always been into extreme and individual sports and didnt even consider golf a sport until maybe two weeks ago. Obv I suck balls at this game and am only donking around on the driving range or nearby fields with an iron 9, but fuck me, its the worlds most tilting activity ever. If you got tilt issues, get a golf club and buy a box of lakeballs. Makes me realize how bad I´m tilting myself , that it doesnt take a third person to lose focus and to constrain me and teaches how to handle tilt. It´s sort of trying new tricks on the BMX, where you go on wheel tilt at some point.
