    Default 1/2 3bet 89s oop

So i decided to experiment a bit today with 3betting my sc's, i woudln't call here pre, normally fold.

This opp was raising a huge amount UTG (39% in 140 hands) and didn't seem to like folding to 3bets.

I think I can safely cbet here, I'd probably fold TT/JJ type hands in HIS shoes without one diamond. If turn gives me an 8 or 9 I'd definitely barrel, but after he calls and I don't improve i just give up.

What does my hand look like if I do barrel on this turn? whats your take here, thanks

    Pre-flop: ($3, 4 players) Hero is BB
Mursuli raises to $7, 2 folds, Hero raises to $24, Mursuli calls $17

    Flop: ($49, 2 players)
Hero bets $29, Mursuli calls $29

Why are you 3betting a polarized range vs. someone who doesn't fold a lot to 3bets?

ok by polarized you mean i'm doing this with sc's or hands like JJ-AA/AK ?

I don't know why my logic seems to be incorrect so much in poker, but I thought if someone calls 3bets a lot then we can bluff them off many hands on certain flops? Or does this mean they just love playing post flop and they try to take you off tons of hands by bluffing?

That's what I did mean regarding your first question. People throw around "polarized" a lot so I'm probably wrong with the context I used it in but yes.

Now, we want to have stronger rangers than our opponent when they call, right? So we should be adding more value hands in our range which forces him to build pots with weaker ranges...what we want.

Bare in mind that people who dont fold to 3-bets much will likely fall into 2 types postflop. Those who fold a lot postflop, and those who call (or play back) a lot. Against those who play fit or fold then you can 3bet a polarised range and make your profit from cbetting. Against those who wont fold, then you should 3bet a wider value range and make your profit from value betting.

Dont fall into the trap of using preflop stats as being too meaningful about their postflop play.
Just dipping my toes back in.

    okay this makes sense.
basically if they dont fold to 3bets then throw stuff in there like A10/AJ type hands, 99+ etc maybe even KQ which I might not normally especially in a spot like this...

and the other key is to figure out (likely you have to waste some money and get into a few 3bet spots with them TO SHOWDOWN) what kind of postflop player they are, if they are calling lots of 3bets but folding 75% to cbets then we can open our range, be more polarized etc, if they play back a ton then we should probably just keep it simple and do it with big hands, ESPECIALLY oop.

really nice forum post marshall, do you guys know of any vidoes dedicated purely to 3bet situations on CR for instance? or are there other forum posts specifically dedicated to ONLY 3bet situations?

i now see that 3betting 89s here oop is giving away money!
