Fold or raise preflop. Obvious mistake just limping.

that $38 bet was kind of an overbet, with that play i personally would think he flopped the nuts and just let the rest of you catch up. Calling all in with flus when there is pair on board is not somehting that is profitable unless you have an AMAZING read on your opponent.

    Fold preflop. Fold river.

Fold pre-flop? Nothing wrong with this hand with 5 plrs and from the button. Should I have raised it? Probably. It would have given me some information and perhaps let me take the pot right there. I hesitate to raise this with a plr trailing in behind me though. My goal with this hand (and a plr behind me) is to nail a big hand and take out pockets trailing in. I can't do that if I raise, because he will reraise and I will have to fold.

My big misplay here is the call on the turn. Should I fold to that bet with a paired board? In general, do you draw for a flush on a paired board?

I put the plr on trip 7s and figured he was slow-playing them. But I did wonder why he didn't raise when the flush draw appeared. I convinced myself he wasn't too worried about the backdoor flush. Didn't have a great read on this plr at this point. I won most of it back from him once my read improved.

agree with rilla, fold or raise pre-flop.

IMO, I fold that hand unless I have great read on the other players. the only strengh of that hand is suited. can't do straight with it plus the 8 kicker is weak.

    FOLD pre-flop

Actually your biggest error, IMO, was raising on the river. Of course the slowplayer was check-raising anyway, but you could save yourself $5 by just calling - and then if he fires in a similar serious raise, save yourself that money by folding.

Raising on the river is for situations where you are 90% certain you're winning. This is definitely not one of those situations.

Well, in my mind everything after the turn was compounding my initial mistake. My mistakes on the river were many and obvious.

But, getting back to my earlier question. Do you draw for a flush on paired board? I'm referring to cases where you are barely getting odds to draw - not free cards.

I see what you mean. You had 3:1 odds on your call, possibly 4:1 or 5:1 if the other guys in the hand call (ended up getting 4:1). I would probably call there and if I hit, flat call any bet; or if no one bet, I might throw out a modest bet and hope for one call on it.

It is a very risky area, you really don't know what you're up against. I'd say if your odds are even or better (i.e. the play is not -EV on its own merits, disregarding any implied odds whatsoever) you can call. Then you just want the cheapest possible showdown if you hit.

I think this hand was played fine, up until you called the big raise on the end. I think I would give him credit for the boat and fold there. I will draw on a paired board if I'm getting sufficient odds, though I always try to be careful at the end to not lose a big pot to a boat if my draw hits. One of my friends who's a pretty good though very tight player, will never pay todraw on a paired board, so there's that school of thought too (though I think it's wrong).
