Flopped set, but why did i put him on the nuts???

Any thoughts in my play here? the way he checked the flop my immediate thought was a big hand. Felt almost ceratin by the river AJ was it, but cudnt fold really.

You shouldn't post results. And bet flop, raise turn, shove river.

If you put him on one hand then fold all streets. If you put him on more than one hand then definitely bet flop and keep trying to get it in asap.

...the way he checked to the raiser on a scary board? This was online, right? I don't get it. That's a hell of a tell to glean through a computer.

You certainly don't have the nuts and I don't hate playing this kind of conservatively, but at least try to get to showdown. Don't even think of folding when you have a set and only a few fairly unlikely holdings beat you. And for future reference, those monsters under the bed might just be shadows.

My god that flop check is bad.....

Even if he check raises you, there are outs galore....

I was on the end of 3 awful hands, that cost me 2 buy ins, KK vs AA, nothing i could do about that, set over set and rivered full house beating my straight, so paranoia crept in a little. Even though i flopped bottom set, the flop was far from ideal for me. There was a little time delay in his check, and the right thing to do was bet, but given the previous hands i figured its about rite he has J9 or AJ, which it turns out he did.

I definitely know where you're coming from with the time delay tell but come on you have TT not QT.

If this means you think the fact that you are running bad makes you more likely to run into another cooler, then you are in need of a paradigm shift.....

Time delay tells are worth paying attention to - but given the board you think he never shows up with KQ, KJ, QJ..? That hesitation can mean a lot of things. It could mean he was thinking of trying to steal this pot from you but the board was so ugly he decided against it. Hell, it could mean he had an itch or was taking a bite of a sandwich or something. It's information of some sort, but it's not exactly a solid gold read on his exact hand.

DC, I think timing tells are useful, but it's worth noting that the more tables a guy plays, the less reliable they are.....at least imo....
