Villain is lagg spewtard alotofaction... I check the flop accidently, but then get myself in this spot. I kind of expect him to shove with a made hand here, but he doesn't. Although of course I don't have tight reads so my expectation doesn't mean much.

Here I check the flop because I don't want to be blown out of the pot against another draw and I don't think a threebet shove is any good on this board. Lockjaw is tag standard reg.

    hand 1: i like.
    hand 2: standard.
hand 3: that's a pretty loose raise preflop UTG. but yeah, rest looks ok after mis-checking.
hand 4: i cbet for value. as played, call. better hands shove, worse hands fold.
hand 5: isn't this the type of flop you want after calling a 3bet with QQ so you can CR?
hand 6: i fold the flop most of the time.
hand 7: calls. CR underflops. CC 1 overcard, evaluate turn. CF 2 overcards. donk all super scary boards.
hand 8: i just call. if he was bluffing with the flush draw, it just missed. i'm not sure if you can fold out a K.
  3. #3
Hand 1: I typically don't like firing a 3rd barrel if the river card hasn't changed the board in a way that could have improved the range of hands we would bet the turn with. Since he called the turn and the range of hands we would bet the river with that he is losing to hasn't really changed, i could see him calling with 10-9 or even MP.

Everything else i had written for hands 2-8 was bad advice.

    1. Small cbet for a drawy board. But a big 2nd barrel... what's up with that? 3rd barrel depends on what you've seen him call down with and what he thinks of you.

    2. Yep.

    3. Weird hand. Hard to put either one of you on a hand, which makes me want to call. I think his range is polarized to strong hands (trips and fh's) and bluffs obv. Since he's a lagg spewtard, call.

    4. Fine. Just call river.

    5. I think this is fine too.

    6. Fold flop. Honestly I think you should fold pre-flop vs. a super tight player, unless you have some read on his 3betting/cbetting.

    7. Vs. an unknown with no 3betting history, fold pre.

    8. Just call river. I think you need a read to know that he'll fold a K here.

    1. i bet more on the flop, I probably check river. I think he makes light calls here, considering the river didn't change anything, and considering that your bet-to-pot ratio is suspect.

    2. yeah

    3. Wow i have no idea what to do here once you check the flop. I guess this is ok.

    4. I'd just bet/call flop As played, definitely raise, to like 270.

    5. yeah

    6. I don't know how much he 3bets, but you may just be able to get away preflop. As played, its this or raise the flop.

    7. call, fold Axx Kxx flops, call Qxx, xxx flops, fold turn

    8. probably just c/f river
  6. #6
1: assuming you ll be sitting w villain a decent amount I think this is a good spot to 3 barrel from time to time to get him thinking you're spewy.

Obv all the draws missed and he can't have a huge hand so he's hard-pressed to call with J9. I think I prefer a bet closer to 1/2 pot since it'll accomplish the same thing (doubt 50$ more will get him to fold top pair or 77 so you lose less when he calls).

2: ya ya... you're beat sometimes here by AA or 9x. I don't think it's often enough either way to be a clear fold. I'd find the spot much sicker if you had JJ.

3: pretty sure I insta-call this vs a spewtard since from his perspective your hand looks so weak (prob like 66). The "fold camp" in me says that we should be a little worried about kicker trouble here tbh. Some shit like K9o.

4: I like betting this flop (tough to have a boat on the flop!) and I'd consider folding this turn since 66 is such a big part of his range. Against described villain I think you can minraise river then fold (a little loopy but a shove may fold out lower flushes and 78) and I can't see him 3 betting river with worse.

5: seems fine if a tad low-variance (obv he's not calling flop CR w worse, not many likely draws to protect against...)

    but

what are the chances Todd will fold AA or AK to a pot-building turn bet? I'd think about turning my hand into a bluff here and repping JJ or 99 since it makes sense to keep him in the pot on the relatively dry flop.

6: I feel like calling cuz I can't put him on a better hand that doesn't protect the turn, esp if he thinks your range of hands is somewhat wide (obv it's unlikely you're sitting on spades, but most ppl get paranoid with big hands in big pots and you didn't mention villain being particularly good, only tight). I'd put villain's range as AA, a flush (unlikely), AK with Ks (less need to protect turn since you are less likely to have big spades like say KsQs) and hands that don't want you to call. There are way more combos of the last group than the 1st 3 because of the postflop action imo.

7: Close as it gets. I'd mix it up vs this type of unknown since you're right smack in the middle of his range. CR ai some flops (sometimes as a bluff and sometimes for value vs possible high cards, Qxx or Kxx... sometimes Axx flops although those are good to bluff like value-town AQ or AK hands vs villain's likely underpair).

I would almost never 4 bet pre here fwiw

8: pretty crazy bluff since you can't really rep anything. I bet it worked but I think you can call river profitably (villain has air and busted FD a big % of time in my exp vs this type).
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

Yeah, Renton's right on 4, gotta raise river... like to $220 maybe.

hand1 (KTcc): eh, Not sure really. I probably just check it back because I find I get looked up too light in these spots, and we are ahead of a small parto f his range on the river (e.g. JT).

hand2 (KK): generally it's a thoughtless insta-call when he shoves that becomes a much tougher decision when he just min-raises. I prob either shove or call and call a shove on any non-A turn. min-raise is def scarier than a shove here though imo against most players.

hand 3 (T9dd): I think it's fine playing it like you did on the flop and turn. River though I think is a fold if he sees you the way that I think he sees you (callcallcall). There are just a lot of hands he can have that beat you.

hand 4 (AJhh): I really have no idea. I prefer a turn raise to a call, though. Bump it up to 125 and see how much he likes his hand. This is ofc assuming you played the flop as you did, which is fine sometimes.

    hand 5 (QQ): fold

hand 6 (hookz): this is a great example of a hand, especially on the first 2 streets, needs to be analyzed within the context of your own game and that of your opponents. can't imagine calling river, but he knows you rarely have an ace. wink wink it's a fold against most, obv.

Hand 7? (JJ#2): kind of a shitty spot, i prob just call and try to play some pokahhhhhhh.

hand 8 (TT): villain insta-calls with KQ

    8. I was almost positive villains range here was air/ fd and tpmk.
Idk it was one of those things where my gut said he'd fold tpmk. And he really tanked it so I'm pretty sure he did in fact fold it.

    5. Geni I see your point. I think his range is actually five hands. JJ, KK, AA, AK, bluff. IF (and that's a big if) he folds to a turn shove with AA and AK, which I think he's capable of, then it would be good to turn my hand into a bluff here. Chances are though he doesn't, but very interesting thought.

Note: When i say super tight tagg i mean 16/14 to 17/15.

    6. Mayhem seems like a reltively light three bettor, at the very least AQ+, TT, and probably some random pp's and sc's.

    1. Ugh you guys make a good point in bet sizing, but I almost feel given the fact I'm playing 16/14 that even if I showdown a bluff its +EV metagame because my showing up with a bluff frequency is so god damn little.

why is 7 so close? we have a reasonably aggressive player preflop (albeit tight) who has 3bet us 5 handed, we have JJ and position.

As far as 3bet pots with JJ go, this is one of the easier pots to play.

I agree, I don't think we should fold pre. However strategy wise it doesn't hurt us at all. So are you saying I played it standard?

Gonna pull one of these "Grunch" moves...then compare and see how badly I do versus everybody else

1.) Don't think he has much after checking all three streets, so nice play.

2.) Put it in, you don't specify how loose he is, but there's pretty much no hand he's calling a 3-bet with having a 9 outside of 99 and A9s, so you're almost always ahead.

3.) How much are you going to tighten this Lagg's range for calling UTG+1? I could definitely see him taking this line with smallish pp's like 66 and 88, because your check-calls look a bunch like missed overs. If you think he's firing the third barrel with a smallish pp/air, I like it...if you don't think he's capable I think it's a fold.

4.) I'd raise to 250 or push the river...if he's completely standard he's probably betting the turn with an OESD or some sort of 67h combo draw thing.

5.) I honestly probably play it the same..if he's very tight you are beating nothing at this point (behind JJ, KK, AA, AK, KQ, tied with QQ and ahead of AQ and TT)...and I doubt he's even 3-betting KQ, AQ or TT in this early of position.

6.) I'd fold the flop, if not preflop. How tight is super tight?

7.) If you called on Hand 6 with JJ OOP, you have to call with position in this hand, minimally. 15/13's sb 3-betting range is probably leaning toward AK, AQ, 99-AA and maybe a suited connector every week or so. Take a flop, raise/commit any c-bet on a J high flop or lower, probably call on a Q high and see if he follows up on the turn, and probably dump a K or A high flop. If you hit a monotone flop with one of your suits I'd probably call most flop bets.

8.) I get a lot of minraises on the flop when I play, and they often leave my head spinning as to what villains have. I think a lot of times villains are testing to see if you have that big PP or AK on this flop, and he probably has a medium pp or some sort of club draw. I assume you think he bricked clubs with the river raise, and you're counting on that "not gone to showdown much" as him being able to fold medium-strength hands or some sort of weak K or J if he picked that up. I don't particularly like this line, but I don't know what I could do differently that would be any better.

My answers probably suck, but I like to see how I stack up anyway.
Save your stories 'cuz they're all the same..
