I suck at this. Overpair OOP

I've only been at the table like 15 hands but CO seems to be very loose and agg and button has only played 2 hands.

2 folds, CO raises to $3.5, Button raises to $7, 1 fold, Hero calls $6, CO calls $3.50.

Flop: ($21.50) 5, 9, 7 (3 players)
Hero checks, CO checks, Button bets $8, Hero calls $8, CO calls $8.

I dont think I played this well.

You say button has only played 2 hands. If that's the case, this is a clear fold on the flop.

In this situation, I'm only calling preflop for set value. Having missed my set out of position, I'm basically done with the hand. So what if 20% of the time he has A-K and you're folding the best hand? The rest of the time you're drawing to two outs and will be paying off on every street, unless you for some reason change your mind and fold, or you're able to just show it down when he gives up.

Helps to have better reads (sucks you've only seen fifteen hands)...

Pre-flop: I like your call here. No need to get jiggy with a raise and re-raise in front of you. Look to hit your set or a favorable flop and go from there.

Flop: Okay, we got our favorable flop. From here you have a few ways to handle this...

1) Lead out for 3/4's the pot and see what happens. I don't like this play b/c you'll have no idea what you're up against because you're OOP. If people call it could be a monster, if people re-raise they could have a monster or air...

2) Check-fold, wait for a better spot. This play isn't bad because you have no reads, because you don't know where you're at...but I think you're losing a LOT of value here if you make this play. Kinda depends on how big of a c-bet the villian makes. If he likes his hand it will be big, if he doesn't like his hand so much he may just have overs. I don't mind this line at all and will take it quite often.

3) Check-raise flop. You're taking control of this hand...if he comes back over the top of you then you know you're good to lay it down, if he folds then it's all good....if he just flat calls his hand is a little more defined (maybe he's drawing, maybe he's got a big PP but is scared), so you can lead the turn. With no reads against a TAgg that has only played 2/15 hands or whatever......this may not be the best play.



As played I'm either check-raising the piss out of this guy (his $8 bet into a $21 pot screams weakness), and playing the hand accordingly from there (depending on how he reacts)......or I'm check-folding.

No. A favorable flop is one which has a T in it, given that a rock reraised preflop. Are you just wishfully putting him on A-K and hoping to avoid an A or K?

By the way, the "weak" flop bet is a tactic a lot of poor players use to try to get action on their big pairs.

Lead flop for 15 or check/fold. As played, fold to the flop bet. It may sound weak, but there's a decent chance your crushed, you are OOP, and there are 38945340 bad cards for you.

He's been at the table for fifteen hands. We can assume he's a rock, but you know what happens when you ASSuME.

I think playing it safe is the best way to go here....but there are definitely other ways to play this. Just depends on how much gambling you want to do.

Calling with TT here is pretty much for set value only, no need to piss away any more chips, just fold.
