    bill-

yikes. i'm interested in how this showed down!

i noticed that you had one of those situations on the flop where you raise just under the shorty's stack, not allowing him to raise enough to allow other players to continue the action after him (i.e. they can only call his short raise, not reraise). if you'd bet more than he has, he would have just called and you might have been able to get more info from other bettors behind. something to keep in mind in the future, but it's really hard with all that action and so many players so i can see how it happened.

so by the time he pushes into you, the pot is ~$425 and you have about $500 behind. let's give him J10d/56d:

    Holdem Hi: 44 enumerated boards containing 2s 9d 8d 7h
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
    9s 9h 9 20.45 35 79.55 0 0.00 0.205
    Jd Td 35 79.55 9 20.45 0 0.00 0.795

it would be a tough fold to make in the moment, and at least it's showing down already so you could see what he had. but if you called i wouldn't blame you at all. there are certainly much worse calls to make. at least you're improving on any paired board card to the best hand when you do hit except 7d for the miracle SF.
In answer to your question... it depends...

I dont see a point in discussing this hand.

I would think 'hey perhaps he has the str8... then call quickly since theres NO way im folding top set on that board ever.

Crappy spot, but there's no way you can fold without a better read. I'd also bet more on the turn, like 200-250.

    Hmm.

I don't see how you can not call. Every chance you are ahead and ten outs to beat the straight.
Okay, so you're rarely going to take the whole pot here, but unless you're more than 60% sure he's got the straight don't you have to call?

But yeah, the best seat here would to be UTG with rakeback
    Blah blah Op Blah blah

I timed out right as I was about to call...

Medium stack took it down with TJ, big stack had 88 so I missed out on a $1000 sidepot.

god damn! i mean, its an easy call if you think villain would ever just call on this flop with 98/set, but it's hard to believe that a good player would. Tough hand.
