It just occurred to me
...that with all the work I've been doing on my game over the past I've been overlooking one glaring situation where I've probably been leaking tons of money.
$2.5/$5 No Limit Holdem
6 players
Converted at weaktight.com
Stacks:
UTG ($517.33)
UTG+1 ($505.65)
CO ($652.03)
BTN ($1354.40)
SB ($479.90)
Hero ($500.00)
Pre-flop: ($7.50, 6 players) Hero is BB with 2 cards
4 folds, SB raises to $15, Hero ???
Now people in today's games are usually opening a pretty large range in the SB when it's folded to them. I had a quick scan around the stats of the regs who happened to be sitting with me today and most were raising 24-34% of their hands in this spot. That's a lot of hands. Given that we know how to play competently post flop, have position and are guaranteed to be HU to the flop, it seems to me that we should be playing way more of our range here.
A few points:
1) If we are perceived as a decent player than a competent SB should be adjusting his ranges for opening in the SB. That probably means less 22 and more T7s and more folding in general,
2) Competent SB players will have a wider than normal 4betting range when we 3bet,
3) As our calling ranges widen we must play more aggressively post flop,
4) We must vary our preflop ranges depending on our dynamic postflop and preflop images.
Now up till this point I had some dumbass static ranges which were something along the lines of
RR: TT+,AJs+,KQs,AJo+
Call: 99-22,ATs-A9s,KTs+,QTs+,J9s+,T8s+,97s+,86s+,76s,65s,54s,ATo, KTo+,QTo+,JTo
This seems totally retarded to me now and I feel that we should be playing a MUCH wider range in this spot.
Just for kicks, if the SB opens 25% of his hands and we play 35% we have 46.7% equity preflop. How much equity is position worth?
This is all a standard 100NL player realisation that I've been missing right?
