is it worth it to get tricky here?

Villain is very loose/aggressive, I am tag.

I thought on the turn he was putting a move on me or had a lower flush or A6 or something like that, and a call turn, check/raise river line might extract more value as he was prone to bluff or value bet and call worse hands if I did that. It kinda sucked that the board paired, but I still stuck with the plan.

What do you think?

If I just call the turn, I usually bet/call the river.

River c/r really sucks unless this guy is a big station. I think he can get away from a lot of hands you beat (lower flushes), but is never folding any better hands, since your line is consistent with a boat. He prob doesnt have a set, although he might have 2pr that filled up on the river. 3-bet the turn all day. Your best shot at winning a big pot is if you can stack a lower flush, and that's probably not going to happen if you get cute and the river pairs the board. You also want to charge a set/2pr on the turn.

Here are a couple of examples where a river c/r would be more appropriate, although villain in hand 2 wasn't the brightest guy.

Thanks guys...I've trying out different lines lately (normally I would 3bet the turn), because I know a key to do well at higher levels is not being too predictable and getting max value from each situation.

But here I shouldn't focus on getting max value from a bluff since theres so much more value from stacking the lower flush or charging set/2 pair.

Bdawg- thx for those examples...it looks like the best situations to check/raise a river is when the opponent made a hand on the turn or river and is likely to bet and maybe call a raise, but they would probably only call or fold if you bet...like in my hand if I rivered a boat/quads it might've been better to do that.

There are definitely a lot of stations where I'm playing that would call with any flush here (opp insta-folded), but I see what you guys are saying, it would've been better to 3bet the turn in this one.
